POLITICS MAKES STRANGE BEDFELLOWS!

How many times have we heard that expression? How many of us just chuckle when we hear it and then think, politicians are what they are and they do what they do?

Out of curiosity, I Googled the term and, of course, got a lot of hits. I like the follow one the best: http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/45/messages/158.html.

But what caused me to even think about the old, but ever current, adage? Well, at least one instance of who is support who in NJ politic holds the answer.

As readers know, Steve Steven Lonegan is the NJ Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat . He is running against Corey Booker, the Democratic candidate and current mayor of Newark, one of NJ's most violent cities. But Booker and Lonegan are not the only competitors for the US Senate seat, there are a total of eight (8), when the other six (6) (see: http://www.state.nj.us/state/elections/2013-results/2013-unofficial-special-general-candidates-us-senate-0813b.pdf) are factored into the race. One of those six (6), Stuart D. Meissner, Esq. (http://meissner2013.com/biography/) is being backed by a Republican political hopeful for NJ's 19th District's Assembly seat, that being Arif Khan (see:http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Arif_Khan)

Now here's the part that brings us back to the 'strange bedfellows' query. Arif Khan's cultural background goes to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, while Stuart Meissner is of Geman, Jewish descent. Many may find that to be a really unusual pairing of mutual supports, given their different political party affiliations and very opposite cultural backgrounds. But can it also be viewed as how far we, the American people, have come in closing cultural, racial and religious differences? Surly, if these two men can support each other, in order to improve our state and federal government, can't we all do likewise? The upcoming October and November elections may provide an answer to that question.
