When "We the People" Win!

There are many in this great nation that still believe that "truth, justice and the American way" does not require one to be a superhero, only a concerned and motivated citizen!

Perhaps, to the chagrin of many local, state and federal elected officials,  the U. S. Constitution and its 1st Amendment still trumps those that would diminish free speech and the rights of the public to be heard and seen!

History is replete with accounts of those in power knowing how important it is to control the mindset of those they govern, in one way or another.  That is not to say such control is always through tyrannical rule.   In fact, in the aggregate, history shows those that stayed in power the longest, like those who believe they are elected for life (sound familiar?) or leave a dynasty to rule, were able to do so because they gave back just enough to their subjects to overcome their opposition, at least for the duration of their rule.

One of the oldest and most effective methods for those in power to maintain control is to bestow positions of power (even insignificant ones) and financial rewards on their cadre and lesser followers.  Unfortunately, all too often, even the smallest glint of recognition from the powers that be is enough to buy the unquestioning loyalty of their minions and devotees.

As society continues to evolve and technology advances, in many ways much faster than society, those in power must find better and faster ways to deflect their critics.   In today’s world of 24/7 media coverage and social networking, those who wish to retain their power and positions must either preempt or deflect their critics. We see this everyday in our lives in various media outlets, be they printed or electronic media.

Most Americans feel overwhelmed by the barrage of information they are confronted with from the  “Mainstream” media outlets, Cable Networks and the various social networks.  The question of who to believe, what to believe, and how much to believe perplex most who try to digest and then use what they hear and see!  Is it any wonder so many just go with the flow, rather than try to sort it all out?

The rich and powerful know how perplexed the public is and they exploit that fact to their advantage.  That’s why they own and control the media and the entertainment industry.  That same one percent (1%) also control many of the politicians that govern the populous.

Thanks to one of the greatest writings man has ever conceived and enacted; The U.S. Constitution, ensures “we the people” have the right and the ability to speak to our elected officials and to our fellow Americans.

To be sure, there are many voices vying to be heard.  Many of those voices start at the local level, in an effort to ensure their local elected officials remain responsive to their electorate.  In that connection, it has been a pleasure and certainly tremendously encouraging to follow the success of one person that has, and continues to, challenge the powers that be.  That person is Tina Renna, a  Union County resident.  Her story and struggle should serve as an inspiration to all who demand honesty and transparency in our government.

The following two links tell the story of this knowledgeable, determined and courageous blogger, who is now also a recognized journalist.

Many politician, but certainly not all, have a disdain, perhaps even a fear, for community activist, like Tina Renna.  In such cases, those under the governorship of such politicians must be proactive in monitoring and questioning their elected officials.  Otherwise, the ride those politicians will take you on will be neither slow, enjoyable, nor inexpensive!

It is hoped others will follow the lead of Ms. Tina Renna, in very borough, township and county throughout New Jersey, and beyond!
