Colonia Country Club hosts MCC Foundation Fundraiser

The club played host to the foundation's annual Scholarship Golf Classic on a beautiful Thursday afternoon

Under bright blue skies and cool, breezy conditions, the Colonia Country Club played host to the Middlesex County College Foundation's 29th Annual Scholarship Golf Classic Thursday.

The annual outing raised money for the Foundation’s scholarship funds through fees, a tricky tray, a silent auction, and other activities throughout the day.Β  The afternoon kicked off with a bar-be-que luncheon before attendees hit the links for a round of golf, followed by cocktails at a reception and an awards banquet.Β  Approximately 60 golfers participated in the event, which was held at the Colonia Country Club for the third consecutive year.

β€œ(The outing) helps the foundation towards its mission of providing financial aid to students who need it,” said Vanetta Ellerbe, director of Annual Giving and Special Events for the Middlesex County College Foundation.Β  β€œBusiness leaders from the area, as well as MCC students participate, and the sponsors and underwriters are from the local communities.”

In addition to a round of 18, golfers could try their hand at a putting contest, and Dayton Toyota supplied a car that could be won if anyone happened to sink a hole-in-one during the day.

On the links, the mood was light, befitting the beautiful weather.Β  Russell Frank and Jim, Mike, and Andrew Maroney shared some laughs in on one whole when Mike Maroney’s approach shot sailed past the pin.

β€œYou hit the green, but on the wrong hole,” joked Frank.
