Woodbridge Township Receives Over $300K in Grants for Road Improvements

The Township and three other municipalities have been awarded a grant through the state's Local Aid program.

Senator Joseph F. Vitale, Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski and Assemblyman Craig J. Coughlin announced that Woodbridge Township would receive $315,610 through the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Local Aid program to mill and resurface Old Road in Sewaren.

Woodbridge is one of four towns including Perth Amboy, Sayreville and Carteret that received a combined $1,424,204 in grants for local road improvements.

  • The Borough of Carteret will use the $368,850 grant for improvements to Federal Boulevard and Minue Street, which serves as a primary thoroughfare for commercial truck traffic.
  • The City of Perth Amboy will apply their $379,744 grant for improvement to Davidson Avenue.
  • The Borough of Sayreville will continue its ongoing overhaul of Ernston Road with a $369,610 grant.

In a release sent out by the 19th Congressional district, it states: β€œUnder the Local Aid grant program, each county is apportioned a share of the total funding based on population and the number of local centerline miles. Municipalities compete for portions of their county’s share.”

NJDOT provides each town 75 percent of the total grant amount when a contract is awarded and the remaining 25 percent is presented upon completion of the project.
