The park, the second of its kind in Woodbridge, marked almost $1 million spent in , Mayor John McCormac has said, that have opened in the township in less than a month.

The recently completed , located behind the , opened in April to fanfare with its outdoor water features, bridge, and 18 holes of play.

The Colonia skateboard facility, , is situated on a small field right next to off Inman Avenue.Β 

The ground is marked off, the dirt dug up, and the initial outline of the skateboard park are already taking shape.

The town council voted at the April 24 council meeting to appoint a California-based skateboard construction company, Spohn Ranch, Inc., to build the park. The cost of the proposal that the council approved was $395,184.

The project, initially approved in January, 2011, was budgeted at $500,000, and was approved by a council majority as part of a $7.15 million bond.

The Colonia venture marks the second township-owned skateboard park; the other is located on Rahway Avenue in Avenel.
