Purse Theft Leads to Discovery of Stolen Car

Police were on the lookout for a suspect wanted for the theft of a purse and cell phone and discovered him in a stolen SUV in Avenel.

Woodbridge Police recently responded to a report of a purse snatching and ended up discovering a stolen car missing out of Clifton.

Around 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, Woodbridge Police were notified of a stolen purse and cell phone from a victim in Metuchen, and were given a vehicle and suspect description, according to a press release from the Woodbridge Police Department.

Shortly thereafter, police on patrol discovered a 2011 Ford Explorer parked in the area of N. Smith Street and Jansen Avenue in Avenel that matched the description provided.

It was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from Clifton, and the driver, Kurt T. Dozier, 45, of New Brunswick was arrested and charged with two counts of Receiving Stolen Property, according to the release. 

Dozier was taken to the Middlesex County Jail with bail set at $45,000 with no 10 percent option.

Police were able to recover the stolen purse and cell phone, according to the release.
