Fire Breaks Out in Avenel Warehouse

Firefighters from the Avenel Fire Dept. responded to a blaze at a clothing manufacturer's warehouse Wednesday.

An electrical fire in an Avenel warehouse brought out a ladder truck and firefighters to battle the blaze.

The received a call at 12:13 pm Wednesday that a fire had broken out at a building occupied by Stretch-O-Rama Inc., a clothing manufacturer located on Paddock Street off Rahway Avenue near the Rahway city border.

Fire Official Cory Spillar said that the fire originated in an electrical panel in the wall, one of four such locations in the building. The fire also consumed clothing and cardboard that was in the vicinity of where the fire started.

Firefighters climbed to the roof to open the vent covers to let the smoke escape, Spillar said. Heavy smoke accompanied the blaze.

Workers in the building evacuated before the fire companies arrived. There were no reported injuries, Spillar said.

In addition to the , fire companies from Colonia, Hopelawn, and Iselin District 9 were on scene, Spillar said. Standing by were fire departments from Iselin District 11 and .
