Do You Travel on Route 35? Plan an Alternate Route

Route 35 is one busy artery in Woodbridge, and it's going to be closed for repairs to the railroad grade crossing.

Conrail announced that Route 35 - also known as Amboy Avenue a bit further south and St. Georges Avenue at the railroad intersection - will be closed for repairs on Sunday, October 21st from 7 am until Monday, October 22, at 6 pm.

That will probably make traffic throughout this part of the township a nightmare.

Those tracks, which are used for freight, are being replaced, and Conrail also said that the road-level crossing will be upgraded. The grading is located near the Kings Garden Apartments and the Woodbridge Main Library.

Improvements, they said, will consist of a new concrete railroad crossing, upgrades and improvements to the sidewalks at the crossing. 

Meanwhile, motorists will have to figure a way around the road closure. Detour signs will be posted, according to town officials.

Drivers traveling northbound should use Green Street, to Route 9 North, and loop back to Route 35. Those going southbound can use posted detour signs to Route 9 and back onto Green Street.
