Carteret Man Convicted of Child Sex Assault

Isidro Perez will serve up to 14 years in jail for repeatedly assaulting a girl starting when she was six years old.

A Carteret man was sentenced to 14 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child on various occasions, beginning when she was just six years old.

Isidro Perez, 34, was convicted in April of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of the child, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. He was sentenced on October 22 in Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick.

Perez will be required to serve 85 percent his sentence before he can become eligible for parole, and he will also be required to register as a Megan's Law offender while being on parole supervision for the rest of his life, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

During the seven-day trial, Assistant Prosecutor Lynn Pilone presented testimony and evidence showing Perez sexually assaulted the child in April 2010, in Carteret when she was 9 years old, and previously assaulted the girl on various occasions between November 2006 and April 2007, in Hudson County when she was 6 years old.

Police began an investigation after the child’s mother learned of the assaults and contacted authorities.
