Amboy Ave. Accident and Fire Scare at Rahway Ave. Cause Traffic Backups

Heads up if you're commuting through Woodbridge Proper this afternoon.

An accident on Amboy Avenue and a fire scare on Rahway Avenue tied up traffic on the major roads that surround the downtown area late this afternoon.

In one accident near Bunns Lane on Amboy Ave and Route 35, an ambulance was taking away one of the victims while the cracked up car was straddled in the middle of the street. Oncoming traffic from Perth Amboy was backed up and diverted to surrounding roadways.

Minutes later, on Rahway Ave. had fire engines and ambulances roaring down Green Street and tieing up traffic in that direction. Two firemen climbed up a ladder truck onto the bar's roof while patrons, getting in some early Christmas celebrating, stood casually outside and watched.

There was no obvious smoke from the call, but stayed on the scene while police blocked off Rahway Ave. in both directions, further snarling the afternoon commute that was already heavy with people escaping for the Christmas holiday.
