Girl Scout Troop 81423 Shows How to Give Back

Giving back to the community is a big part of what the girls are learning, so the troop decided to donate a portion of their Girl Scout cookie profits to the First Presbyterian Church.

Our troop had a great year – we visited a hospital, the fire department, went to the circus, had a campfire night, took a Zumba class, and we can’t forget that we sold Girl Scout cookies!  Selling Girl Scout cookies has helped us teach the girls about setting goals, making decisions, managing money, interacting with people, and learning about business.

Our troop sold over 1600 boxes of cookies and made over $800 in profits.  One fun decision the troop got to make was how to use their profits.  Giving back to the community is a big part of what the girls are learning, so the troop decided to donate a portion of their profits back to the church.

On June 5, Girl Scout Troop 81423 visited the First Presbyterian Church of Iselin to thank them for graciously letting us use their building for our meetings all year and provided an update on the Girl Scouts program.  In front of a community of approximately 50 people, the troop (grades K to 2nd) recited the Girl Scout Oath, sang "You're a Grand Old Flag", and shared information about the benefits of the Girl Scouts program.  The troop also made a donation to the church and their food community pantry.  The presentation wrapped up with a reading of the poem "Make New Friends."
