Trip to NYC Public Library

Spring Trip - New York Public Library - May 14, 2014
Join us on an exciting trip to the world renowned NYC Public Library. Often referred to as the “main branch,” the Beaux-Arts landmark building on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street houses outstanding research collections in the humanities and social sciences as well as a circulating children’s collection. The non-circulating graduate-level collections were initially formed from the consolidation of the Astor and Lenox Libraries, and have evolved into one of the world’s preeminent public resources for the study of human thought, action, and experience—from anthropology and archaeology, to religion, sports, world history, and literature. The main exhibit highlights Why Children’s Books Matter, and we will also have access to the library’s famous collection rooms, and other special exhibits.
Our bus will leave from Library Place (behind the MEtuchen Library) promptly at 10:00 AM but our “travelers” must be on the bus by 9:45. You can usually find on-street parking on Library Place and Linden Place.
Cost for the trip is $45 per person, which includes transportation and a gratuity for the bus driver. You can leave your personal items on the bus. Payment is due by May 13th by check or money order, payable to Friends of the Metuchen Library. No cash will be accepted and no refunds made for cancellations. (If you can’t make it, you are encouraged to sell unused tickets to people on the waiting list.) Present your payment at the main desk of the Metuchen Library and add your name to the list you’ll find on the desk (please PRINT clearly). You can send payment by regular mail, and we’ll put your name on the list.
You will be on your own for lunch. There are restaurants throughout the neighborhood, as well as a pricier full-service restaurant in adjacent Bryant Park. Kiosks in the park sell sandwiches, soups, salads, and dessert, and there are tables and chairs all around. If it’s a nice day, al fresco dining is so pleasant. The return trip from New York City departs promptly at 4:00 PM, so be sure to be on the bus by 3:50.
