Woodbridge Is in For Some Scorching Summer Days

The National Weather Service is predicting a mercury-busting heat wave that will dwarf last week's 100 degree temperatures.

The heat wave that baked the Midwest over the past several days has arrived on the East Coast.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an excessive heat warning for central New Jersey, including Middlesex County, that is in effect from this afternoon through Friday night. The most scorching part of the hot weather is predicted descend on the area on Friday afternoon.

The heat index - a dangerous combination of heat and humidity - may reach as high as 105 to 110 degrees, the NWS has forecast. Those index temperatures would surpass the heat wave that hit the area last week.

Children, older adults, and the disabled are most at risk during excessive temperatures and should be monitored if they're in an non-air-conditioned environment for any length of time during the heat wave. Β Pets are also vulnerable and should be taken indoors or sheltered in a cool environment if at all possible, and provided with cool water.Β

The township is also making available a variety of 'cooling centers' throughout the area for heat-afflicted residents who want to cool off. There is also a local program to give electric fans to the elderly and disabled who are without air-conditioning.
