GALLERY: Holiday Stroll Lights Up Main Street

A horse and buggy ride, along with Santa and Mrs. Claus, kicked off the holidays in Woodbridge on Saturday.

Woodbridge Downtown Merchants Association ushered in the beginning of the Yuletide season with the Fifth Annual 'Holiday Stroll'.

The event is timed to coincide with where shoppers are encouraged to support local business by making purchases, particularly holiday gifts, in the local downtowns where they live.

The seasonal event features Santa and Mrs. Claus, a disc jockey, music and other festivities. But the highlight has to be the holiday horse and carriage rides that travel up and down Main Street

The buggy rides were part of the fun on Saturday afternoon Nov. 24. The annual event starts the holiday season in town. Other holiday dates to take note of around town include the annual train show at the Barron Arts Center and the holiday tree lighting, scheduled for Friday, November 30.

not for nothing, but there was like 20 people there. closing off Main Street was more damaging than good for the local businesses. spend you money more wisely, Woodbridge.

As you were one of those "20" people there and you were quite wrong in your count, the event would have been more successful if advertised via social networking. It's a shame to have people so negative about an event that made people feel better after the damaging storms New Jersey suffered through.

The Holiday Stroll is actually very holiday; it's one of the nicer events in Woodbridge around the Christmas season. I highly recommend it!

Sound like it was nice. I wish I new about it. Would have enjoyed it! Maybe next year.

I had no idea it was happening. I think Woodbridge could do a much better job of promoting its small businesses. I will make it my business to participate next year, but any marketing major knows that advertising and creating a buzz is key.

Yes, i would assume the business that rents the horse drawn carriage would love this event!

The Holiday Stroll is the worst event I've ever been to in Woodbridge. There are only a handful of people, and not much to do or look at. Shopping on Main Street is limited to what, CVS and a handful of small stores? They should make it into a holiday street fair. Sell holiday themed items and gifts, have food vendors, music, photos with santa, light the christmas tree, etc. The event as it stands now is a total dud.
