Everything's Free at the YMCA During Open Access Week

If you ever wanted to find out what the Y is about, this week through Oct. 29 is your chance.

Looking for a little fun recreation, but the budget is tight? You're in luck, because it's the time for biannual Open Access Week at the YMCA at the .

The YMCA, which includes the Metuchen-Edison and South Amboy branches, is opening their doors to local residents at absolutely no cost. The entire family can try out the facility's many amenities and have a chance for some free fun.

The walking and running track is open for some indoor exercise, and kids can keep busy at the babysitting service while parents get a workout in. Then there's the phenomenal 25-yard swimming pool, the perfect size for laps or just splashing around.

The YMCA is hoping to entice local residents with their facilities, and to that end they've added 19 new, state-of-the-art cardio machines, including 10 new treadmills, 3 step-through recumbent bikes, 2 ellipticals and 4 Adaptive Motions Trainers (AMTs).

For those who like company while they exercise, the YMCA offers a variety of exercise classes for varying fitness levels. This week, they include:

  • Tuesday 10/25 7:30 pm, Zumba
  • Wednesday 10/26 6:00 pm, Boot Camp
  • Friday 10/28 5:00 pm, ZumbAtomic (ages 4-7)
  • Friday 10/28 5:30 pm, ZumbAtomic (ages 8-12)
  • Friday 10/28 6:30 pm, Zumba

During Open Access Week, all senior classes and activities will be available, as well as free babysitting Monday to Thursday from 6 pm to 8:30 pm and Saturday 8:30 am to noon. (The only exception to the Open Access policy is the open gym.)
