Boscov’s Brings Family Atmosphere to Woodbridge

The new family-owned department store kicks off its three-day grand opening on Thursday.

Being a family-owned department store chain, it’s no wonder Boscov’s aims to keep “family” in mind, especially when it comes to customer service.

Boscov prides himself on customer service, Senior Vice President and Director of Stores, Gary Boyer expressed.

He prides also himself on making friends, treating employees like family and hoping employees will then treat the customers like family.

“He also believes in being a part of the community,” Boyer said. Which is why the kick-off event of the Woodbridge Boscov’s opening is a Charity Gala on Thursday night featuring over 100 Woodbridge organizations with over 30,000 guests.

Guests can shop at Boscov’s early for a $5 donation to any Woodbridge organization that will have tables set up at all five store entrances.

Boscov’s, which is replacing the abandoned location that was once Fortunoff’s, expanded an additional 30,000 square feet and features an auditorium where this weekend’s performers “The Amazing Kreskin” and “Elvis Aaron Presley Jr.” will take the stage.

The store also plans to utilize the space for community organization events and their Campus of Courses program, which brings in local businesses and professionals for a variety of workshops ranging from finances and health to cosmetics or technology.

What makes Boscov’s different than competitors at Woodbridge Center and surrounding malls? Well, Boyer says it is because they fill in niche other department stores don’t.

“We offer different commodities,” Boyer said. “Like our candy department where we make our own fudge, we’re known for our candy counter.”

Boscov’s never uses coupons, because they offer honest pricing where customers are getting the best price upfront. However, they do run sales and door busters, such as several specials for the grand opening weekend.

The store will carry tons of brands and a really wide assortment of merchandise, Public Relations Director Terri Forbes said.

The store will feature, women’s, juniors, misses, plus, petite, intimates, men’s, young men’s, children’s and infant clothing, as well as furniture, décor, candy, housewares, cosmetics, handbags, shoes and much more.

Boscov’s is excited to be opening up in Woodbridge, Forbes said.

“It’s one of our largest markets,” she said. “We feel like it could be one of, if not, the biggest store we have.”

Forbes added that the store has had a great experience working with the township, who have been so welcoming to the addition of Boscov’s. “We know we’re going to do well here,” Forbes expressed. “We’re just excited to open.”

The addition of Boscov’s to Woodbridge Center Mall created around 300 jobs, many of which filled by Woodbridge residents or transfers from other Boscov’s locations.
