The Final Problem - Barron Arts Center in Woodbridge

Local Literature Hub The Raconteur Brings Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Immortal Sherlock Holmes to Life in a Theatrical Production of The Final Problem at the famed Barron Arts Center in Woodbridge.

The Final Problem will be performed on May 25, 2011 at 8:oopm at The Barron Arts Center by Raconteur Radio, a theater group dedicated to the weird, wonderful, and beautifully retro. Period Costumes, theatrical lighting, and sound effects will give Sherlock Holmes a vintage radio show feel.  In addition, the Victorian Romanesque Revival backdrop supplied by Woodbridge’s historic Barron Arts Center will give the production a vintage vibe.

Raconteur Radio productions originate at The Raconteur, a bookstore in Metuchen, NJ. The Raconteur has been called "a literary center of gravity" by The New York Times, "a literary landmark" by Time Out New York, and a "literary sanctuary" by the London Guardian. Known for its accomplished and eclectic programming, The Raconteur organizes oddball literary happenings that range from Manhattan pub crawls and arm wrestling tournaments to motorcycle rides and beard growing contests.

Whether you like your Sherlock Holmes bucking and brawling (a la Guy Ritchie's flagrant makeover) or prefer your detective more faithfully portrayed, this loyal adaptation of Holmes' most famous dustup is for you!  The Final Problem, which was to be, as the title implies, Doyle's last, culminates with a fateful square off at "a dreadful cauldron of swirling water and seething foam" known as Reichenbach Falls. States Holmes, "Never have I risen to such a height, and never have I been so hard pressed by an opponent...if I could beat that man, if I could free society of him, I should feel that my own career had reached its summit."  Reservation are required.  For more information and to make reservations,  please call 732-634-0413.  The Barron Arts Center is located at 582 Rahway Avenue in Woodbridge, NJ.

This production is part of the “A Taste of the Arts” Lecture Series and is sponsored by The Woodbridge Township Cultural Arts Commission chaired by Dr. Dolores Capraro Gioffre with the support of Mayor John E. McCormac.
