Avenel Wawa to Open Doors Friday

The grand opening will be held at 10 a.m.

A new Wawa location in town will officially open for business on Friday morning.

Mayor John McCormac will lead a grand opening ceremony with township and Wawa officials at 10 a.m. Friday at the retailer.

A charitable hoagie building competition between the Woodbridge Police Department and the Avenel Fire Department will follow the ribbon cutting, and the Domestic Violence Response Team of Woodbridge will receive a $2,000 donation from Wawa.

Free coffee will be offered at the store through December 1, according to a press release from Wawa.

The Woodbridge Marching Band and Color Guard will provide music, according to the release.

The new 4,700 sq. foot store comes with a gas station, a team of 60 employees, and a whole new look, as part of Wawa's new designs for the brand. It is the 239th Wawa in New Jersey, according to the company.

This Wawa is the second of two that were planned to open in Woodbridge. The first location opened in October 2012 in Fords.

It is located at 930 Route 1 N., in Avenel.
