Have a hankering to work in retail? A new department store about to open in Woodbridge Center is hiring. Boscov's, one of the last of the family-owned department store chains in the country, will be interviewing job candidates starting Monday, June. Job seekers can go to their interview center, located on the upper level of the mall across from Chick-Fil-A. Interview center hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 10 am to 6 pm, and Fridays, 10 am to 3 pm. Full and part time sales staff and support associates are being hired. The mid-level department store announced last year that they were moving into the old Fortunoff store, a space of 150,000 sq. ft. Police are still looking for two men who forcibly stole a Range Rover from a shopper after assaulting him on April 19.
Two assailants who carjacked a 2013 Range Rover from a local man at Woodbridge Center last Friday still haven't been apprehended. The assault took place at the mall near the Route 9 parking lot of Sears, said Woodbridge Police Captain Roy Hoppock, around 11:40 am. The man, who had been shopping at the mall, returned to his late model vehicle when suddenly a blue Subaru pulled up next to him. The assailant, who had a ski mask over his head, pulled the driver out of his vehicle and hit him several times with the butt of a silver gun. The thief threw the man to the side, jumped in the Range Rover and sped off, with the other suspect following in the Subaru. The victim refused medical attention, Hoppock said. Four of the eight finalists are teachers from Woodbridge Township schools. Voting ends April 28.
Woodbridge Center has been running a contest to find the top performing teacher. The finalists are in, and four of them are teachers from schools inside Woodbridge. “We have some great examples of teachers who affect their students’ lives in really positive and unique ways," said David Albertson, senior marketing manager for the mall. The winner of the contest will get a $500 gift card to Woodbridge Center on National Teacher's Day on May 7. Right now, fans of the teachers can vote for them on Woodbridge Center's Facebook page. Project Runway and American Idol contestants will help Woodbridge teens get ready prom-ready at Prom Jam.
Every high school student is a star at Prom. This year, teens planning on attending their senior year bash will get some help from TV celebrities. Contestants from Project Runway and American Idol will be involved in Woodbridge Center's yearly expo, which they call 'Prom Jam.' The festivities take place on Saturday, March 16, from noon to 6 pm at the mall. The Menlo Park Barnes & Noble just resigned their lease for another five years.
It's going to be good news for Woodbridge and area residents. Barnes & Noble will not be closing its Menlo Park Mall store. The Woodbridge Patch story that the bookstore chain will be closing at least 20 stores a year over the next ten years generated a response from the corporation. "We extended the lease on our Menlo Park store through 2018," said B&N spokeswoman Mary Ellen Keating. "We are not closing and plan to serve the community for many years to come." It was a welcome relief for Woodbridge bookreaders. Since Borders closed its last store in Woodbridge Center in 2011, the township with almost 100,000 hasn't had a new bookstore to serve its devoted readers. Veterans from the state will receive the NJ Distinguished Service Medal on Tuesday. The ceremony kicks off a three-day veteran's outreach program at the mall.
Twenty New Jersey veterans of the nation's wars will receive high honors at a Woodbridge Center ceremony next week. The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will aware the NJ Distinguished Service Medal to the veterans for service in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. The veterans who will be honored hail from Union, Somerset, Middlesex and Hunterdon counties. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, February 19, at 11 am at the lower level Sears wing. Shoppers expecting to scoop up post-holiday bargains are expected to throng both Woodbridge Center and Menlo Park Mall shopping centers this morning. The radio station will be at a mall near you to help get new toys for needy kids this holiday season.
If you haven't seen them yet, you soon will. 92.3 WNOW, a New York City radio station you might've known once as K-ROCK, is touring their special 'Stuff a Bus' all over the New York and New Jersey area. They're hoping that kind donors will help them fill the bus with toys for underprivileged kids this Christmas. This year, the cause is especially important: many kids whose families and homes were affected by Hurricane Sandy may not have much of a holiday without efforts like this, according to the radio statio's website.
