David's Touch Fundraiser Offers $5 Menu

Here's how to help sick children who may be hospitalized during the holiday season.

Giving to a good cause makes the donor feel great. Sometimes, though, the giver gets an even more tangible reward. The David's Touch Foundation will be hosting a special fundraiser at the Shannon Rose Irish Pub in Woodbridge from 6 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, December 13. They will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to donate to sick children who may be spending the holidays in the hospital. In return, the donor will enjoy a special $5 menu at the Shannon Rose. The symbol of David's Touch is a child's handprint. That's done  in memory of David Borrero, a nine-year-old child who suffered from congenital heart problems. He received a new heart transplant, only to die of lymphoma when he was 9 years old. It was spending all that time in hospitals …

David's Touch Celebrates Life with a Birthday Fundraiser

The little boy in whose name the group was founded would've been 16 years old on Monday. The group raised money to help hospitalized kids in his honor.

Birthdays are a big deal to any teen, and Monday would have been David Borrero's 16th birthday. His family continues to celebrate on that day by helping sick children in his name through the David's Touch Foundation. A birthday party fundraiser was held at Rita's Italian Ice in Woodbridge Monday to raise awareness and money for kids with chronic conditions who spend a lot of time in hospitals. That's what happened to little David, who suffered from congential heart problems and received a new heart, only to die of lymphoma when he was only 9 years old. "We started about two years ago," said Jenny Perez-Rosado, David's mother and co-founder of David's Touch - David himself is considered the founder. The charity's mission is to deliver toys …

Awesome job Rita's Ice! It's great to know that local businesses are able to contribute to our community during these unsteady financial times. And it is also great to see our community come out and support these charities. Way to go Rita's, thank you for your continued support.   more ›

Children's Foundation Raises Money Through Italian Ice Event for Hospitalized Kids

'David's Touch," a local charity organized to help hospitalized children, is holding a fundraiser at Rita's Italian Ice today from 5 to 7 pm.

Italian ice would be just the kind of treat little David Borrero would've loved on a hot summer day. Now, a fundraiser being held at a local Italian ice purveyor will go to help children who are languishing in hospitals by making their stays more comfortable. "David's Touch" was founded by David's mother, Jenny Perez-Rosado, as a way of keeping her son's memory alive by helping to alleviate the pain and boredom young children experience when they are hospitalized long and repeatedly with chronic conditions. David was only 9 years old when he died of lymphoma in 2004, years after he had received a new heart because of congential heart problems. The fundraiser is being held from 5 to 7 pm at Rita's Italian Ice in the former A&P Shopping …

David's Touch Blood Drive Draws in Dozens of Donors

Donating blood is always a generous gesture, especially when the inspiration behind it comes from a child who was full of life.

A small wooden desk at the Woodbridge Community Center with a modest sign that read "Donate Blood Now" drew in more donors than many more extravagant blood drives. That is because the volunteers who dedicated their time to publicize and organize the event drew their inspiration from the courage and strength of a little boy whose memory remains.  It is for the love of her late son, David Borrero, that keeps Jenny Perez-Rosado going as the vital backbone of David's Touch, a foundation she started in 2009 in memory of David, who passed away in 2005. In conjunction with the New Jersey Blood Services, Perez-Rosado organized the foundation's first blood drive, and both organizations hope that it will be an annual event. It was when the Rosados …

"David's Touch" Inspires Many to Give

Jenny Perez-Rosado is on a mission to bring joy to children in honor of her first-born son

David Borrero was born in 1995 with a congenital heart disease. He was given a 16 percent chance of survival. After open-heart surgery when he was three days old, he began a three-month stay at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. David's mother, Jenny Perez-Rosado, became a fixture in the hospital, and in the ward. This was the genesis of the idea for David's Touch, a foundation begun to help alleviate the pain and suffering of sick children by giving them something else to focus on outside of sterile hospital walls. The first fundraiser for David's Touch was held Mon., Dec. 13, at the Shannon Rose in Woodbridge. Supporters of the foundation filled up the room quickly.  The crowd was clearly dedicated to helping preserve the lasting legacy…
