The End of an Era: Mauro Motors Closes Its Doors
The cornerstone of auto sales in Woodbridge for generations seems to have silently folded without a peep.
Mauro Motors, a cornerstone of the township for generations, has apparently shuttered its Amboy Ave. showroom. It's not completely clear, though, because there is no one you can ask. No one answers the phone; no one is at the dealership. But the car seller, which had been selling late model used cars in the past year, is suddenly empty, save for a red pick-up truck in the middle of the empty showroom floor. The small lot to the side of the building, which had been full of automobiles and SUVs, is completely vacant. One potential customer showed up, looked in the empty showroom windows, pulled on the locked double doors, then sighed before he drove away. "They were just here. I havent lived in Woodbridge since 1963, but alot of my fond memories there seem to always remember driving by Mauro Motors. It's design was classic, clean and always a credit to the surrounding community. To think of it being gone is sad to say the least. Chrysler did not appriciate the quality they had there.
