GALLERY: Holiday Stroll Lights Up Main Street

A horse and buggy ride, along with Santa and Mrs. Claus, kicked off the holidays in Woodbridge on Saturday.

Woodbridge Downtown Merchants Association ushered in the beginning of the Yuletide season with the Fifth Annual 'Holiday Stroll'. The event is timed to coincide with 'Small Business Saturday,' where shoppers are encouraged to support local business by making purchases, particularly holiday gifts, in the local downtowns where they live. The seasonal event features Santa and Mrs. Claus, a disc jockey, music and other festivities. But the highlight has to be the holiday horse and carriage rides that travel up and down Main Street The buggy rides were part of the fun on Saturday afternoon Nov. 24. The Holiday Stroll is the worst event I've ever been to in Woodbridge. There are only a handful of people, and not much to do or look at. Shopping on Main Street is limited to what, CVS and a handful of small stores? They should make it into a holiday street fair. Sell holiday themed items and gifts, have food vendors, music, photos with santa, light the christmas tree, etc. The event as it …   more ›

Horse and Buggies Ring in Small Business Saturday on Main St.

If you were looking to get in the holiday mood, you couldn't have done better than a visit to Main St. on Saturday. That's where the Downtown Merchants Association sponsored their special 'Holiday Stroll', a Yuletide event that featured horse-drawn buggy rides, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and holiday tune crooning from a Christmas Elvis. "It's great," said Shannon James, who was strolling down Main St. with her two children. "It's a great break for the kids. It puts you in the mood." Both ends of Main St. were closed off, with the buggy rides eminating from School St. That was also the holiday stage for Elvis, who entertained passersby with "Blue Christmas" and other seasonal songs.  Stores up and down Woodbridge Proper's downtown …
