Cancer Patient Continues to Work for the Cause

Roseann Velardo has had a relapse of her cancer, but she was at Vito Mazza Salon's hair cutting event Monday with a smile and her camera.

It's her second bout with cancer in five years, but Roseann Velardo was not only present at the hair cutting event at Vito Mazza Salon & Spa on Monday, but was happily taking pictures of those having their hair cut. "I was diagnosed in 2006," Roseann said.  Her friend Tilly worked then with Vito Mazza and surprised her with her first benefit, and then did another one in 2010. But on April 2 of this year, Roseanne said she was re-diagnosed with cancer. That led to the haircutting fundraiser at Vito Mazza on Monday. "The hair that is cut goes to Pantene, and four ponytails are needed to make one wig," Roseann said. "The wigs are then given to the American Cancer Society, who in turn give them to those who need them." "This event was being …

Battling Cancer for the 2nd Time

Vito Mazza Salon in Woodbridge is holding a hair-cutting event to benefit Woodbridge resident Roseann Velardo.

Woodbridge resident Roseann Velardo knows something about courage. She battled cancer once; now she's battling it again. Vito Mazza Salon & Spa is holding a hair donation event in honor of Verlardo, a client of the salon.  Anyone willing to donate 8 or more inches of hair can make an appointment from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday, September 17, and they'll receive a free haircut, courtesy of Vito Mazza. Donors will also receive a gift package with over $50 worth of products and savings. The hair cutting is done on behalf of the American Cancer Society and Pantene Great Lengths. A spa package will also be raffled off, with tickets going for $10. Men, women, and children are welcome, and chemically processed hair is fine, too, for donation. …

Vito Mazza Staffers 'Move Like Woodbridge'

Hair stylists at the Main Street Salon did their Three Minutes Dance Thursday morning in honor of the township's 'get moving' program.

Thursday might've looked like a normal day on Main Street, but all that changed at 10 am. That was when Vito Mazza salon employees dropped their shears, combs, and blow dryers, and started shaking to the rhythm of "Moves Like Woodbridge," a township event to get residents into exercise. "It's fun," said Vito Mazza Jr., who was helping round up the salon stylists for the 10 am event. The idea of moving one's groove thing came from Council President Gregg Ficarra, a Perth Amboy physical ed teacher who is a fan of all things athletic. The song was a play on the Maroon 5 song, "Shakes Like Jagger," a reference to Mick Jagger of Rolling Stones fame. The word quickly spread to the Board of Education and local businesses to shake as one for …

Wax Like an Egyptian with Hair Removal

Sugaring is the new 'old' method that goes back to ancient Egypt. It's coming to Vito Mazza Salon & Spa this week.

Sugaring is a relatively new concept for hair removal, but it's a process as old as the ancient Egyptians.  They usde a paste comprised mainly of sugar and water, slathered it on the skin, then pressed strips of linen onto the sugar paste and unwanted hair, and zip! The hair was gone. Vito Mazza Salon & Spa is adding hair removal via sugaring to its roster of beauty services. They'll be offering a special Body Sugaring Day on Thursday, March 29, with promotional offers, service demonstrations, and complimentary gifts and refreshments. Lina Kennedy, the president of Alexandria Professional, the company whose sugaring products the salon will be featuring, will also be at the event. The Vito Mazza technicians who will be doing the sugaring …

Video: Little Girls Give Their Locks With Love

Two young sisters got cool haircuts at Vito Mazza Salon in Woodbridge, and their shorn tresses will be turned into lovely hairdressing for children missing their own hair.

Raising selfless, loving children isn't an easy job these days. That's why Jenny Zaretsky of South Amboy has every right to be proud of her daughters.  Charli, 10, and Lexi, 7, both volunteered to have their long tresses cut for a good cause. The Locks of Love organization gathers up the ponytails of children and helps fashion it into human hair wigs for children suffering from illnesses that cause baldness. "My mom told me about coming here," said Charli, her Goldilocks curls tumbling over the salon chair at Vito Mazza Salon & Spa. "The last time I had my hair cut was two years ago, but it wasn't really short." Both Charli and Lexi have beautiful, spun gold locks, which Angie, the stylist, divided into small ponytails she gently sheared …
