Funeral Service Set for Bishop Hughes, Second Head of the Metuchen Diocese
Bishop Edward Thomas Hughes, who led the Metuchen Diocese for a decade, passed away on Christmas Day at the age of 92.
The wake for Bishop Edward Thomas Hughes, who passed away on Chritmas Day and who served as Bishop for the Diocese of Metuchen for 10 years, has been set for Thursday, January 3. The wake and mass, which will be presided over by current Bishop Paul Gregory Bootkoski, will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen with a public visitation at 2 pm. A Mass of Commemoration will also take place on Thursday at 7:30 pm. with the funeral to held on Friday. Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, who was the founding bishop of the Metuchen Diocese in 1981, will officiate at the funeral service for Bishop Hughes on Friday, January 4, at 11 am at the Metuchen cathedral.
