ShopRite Lowers Spending Threshold to Get Free Turkeys

It used to be $400. But because of Hurricane Sandy, all you have to do is spend $300 by November 22, and you can get a free turkey for your holiday table.

It's all to help people impacted by Hurricane Sandy. ShopRite has lowered the amount shoppers must spend in order to qualify for a free Thanksgiving turkey, according to Supermarket News.  The traditional ShopRite turkeyfest happens once a year. During that time, shoppers who spend a certain amount of money can pick up a free turkey for their Thanksgiving table. This year, the supermarket recognizes that people who were affected by the recent hurricane probably didn't have food shopping on their minds - especially with areas of central New Jersey not having electricity, in some cases, for more than a week. The free turkey threshold was $400. ShopRite has changed that to $300, Supermarket News reports. The promotion, which runs from …

Hurricane Sandy has worn everyone out. Here's a great way to lift the spirits of the entire family.

Santa Claus is arriving at Woodbridge Center this Thursday, accompanied by an entire entourage and a mall-wide parade. It's going to be the biggest parade the mall has ever had to launch the holiday season, said David Albertson, senior marketing manager for Woodbridge Center.  “We feel this parade will lift the spirits of the community and shoppers alike with the terrible situations taking place over the last week or so due to the storms," he said. The festivities start at 7 pm on November 15 at the lower level of the mall. With Iselin's JFK Memorial High School Marching Band providing the music, the holiday parade will include costumed characters, holiday entertainers, the Avenel Detachment Marine Corps League, a local Daisy and Brownie …

Patch Partners Supports Small Businesses in Woodbridge

AOL Chairman and CEO Tim Armstrong gives advice to small business owners via Patch Partners.

There are hundreds of small businesses in Woodbridge. Some of them may be places you and your family frequent, businesses that have been in Woodbridge for as long as you can remember. And some may be your go-to places instead of national chains. AOL Chairman and CEO Tim Armstrong may stand behind a global brand, but he believes in the power of small businesses. In his recent interview with Patch Partners, a website connecting business owners to Patch in local communities, he offered his insight into what can set a small business above the rest of the competition. Small businesses can hold a lot of power if they are intuitive with their customer base, Armstrong said. “Small businesses can be nimble and can have intimate relationships with …

Getting Paid After Hurricane Sandy

Information about returning to work—or getting paid until you can—after Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy slammed into the Northeast, destroying lives, homes and jobs. Below is some information about how to get back to work or get paid while you're trying to put your life back together. Will you still get paid if you can’t get to work or your office or business is closed?  Employers are covered by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which defines whether an employee is entitled to be paid when a business is closed. If you fall under the status of “exempt”, as many salaried workers do, you are entitled to be paid. If you are non-exempt, then you are not—although you should still receive a paycheck for hours that you worked prior to Sandy's arrival. http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/fairpay/fs17g_salary.htm http://…
