Almost $40K Later...What Did Woodbridge Get for Marketing the Community Center?

Can a PR firm generate enough publicity to make the community center and golf course pay off?

When the Woodbridge Council allotted almost $40,000 to a PR firm to market the Woodbridge Community Center in 2012, what were they getting for their money? So far, there's been a new logo and a new program name, the Woodbridge Family Series, a compilation of events that have been held in the township throughout the years. The Have-A-Heart Food Drive, the Easter Egg Hunt, even auditions for Woodbridge Idol, have all been regrouped into the Family Series. The YMCA, the Arenas ice skating rink, and the Skyline Mini-Golf course all come under the heading of money-making ventures that Mayor John McCormac is hoping will produce the revenue he's looking for. McCormac endorsed the hiring of 20 Lemons, the PR firm that is hawking the Community …

Mini-Golf Course Opens on Time

Ready or not, Woodbridge's Skyline Mini-Golf was unveiled Monday just in time for Easter break.

The season was opening early for miniature golf, but this was no ordinary mini-golf course. Skyline Mini-Golf, so named for the view in the distance of part of New York City, opened in back of the Woodbridge Community Center Monday to much fanfare, cheers, and a few rounds of golf. Mayor John McCormac, the main driver behind the project, declared the golf course to be part of the township's "new phase of entertainment opportunities" an cut the ribbon on the course. Council President Gregg Ficarra, along with other council members and township employees, were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. McCormac and some of the other politicians also played a few holes of golf for the cameras. Children who were on school vacation this week were…

Enjoy the View! A Preview of the Woodbridge 'Skyline' Mini-Golf Course

The new mini golf course at the Woodbridge Community Center opens Monday. Here's a preview - with the New York skyline for which it is named.

Circle April 9 on your calendar. That's when Woodbridge's new 18-hole miniature golf course - Skyline Mini-Golf, named after a view of the New York skyline - opens next to the Woodbridge Community Center. The ribbon cutting is set for 12 noon.  Signs around the golf course, which boasts water amenities and themed holes, showed it was still getting ready for the grand opening. Mayor John McCormac said in a letter to township residents that the mini-golf course was just the beginning: "In coming months, we anticipate even more recreation activities with the addition of professional baseball/softball batting cages, a trampoline center, family picnic area, and companion recreational and entertainment amenities." "Imagine a senior resident …

Near Woodbridge Resident, Perhaps. Ms. Winfrey’s comment about the cemetery was meant to be a metaphor about how this mayor and his administration are burying the residents of this community and their children in debt. But that is something she can comment on, should she choose to do so. Few would argue that seeing children, seniors or adults enjoying a wholesome game, is not a pleasant sight. It…   more ›

New Woodbridge Miniature Golf Course Set to Open April 9

Officials say the $428,000 mini-golf course features themed holes, water amenities, and a view of the Manhattan skyline.

A miniature golf course, set on a capped landfill next to the township's community center, is slated to open April 9. Dubbed "Skyline Mini-Golf," the 18-hole course set on 1.5 acres of land that used to be the town dump is part of the township's "new phase of entertainment opportunities" promised by Mayor John McCormac last year when the funding for the project was approved. The golf course will join other township-bonded entertainment facilities, such as a new $500,000 skateboard park Township officials said the golf course is family friendly and includes water features, themed hole designs, and a view of the Manhattan skyline, which accounts for the course's name. The township is pitching the mini-golf course for rent to groups and …

Yes! A luxury item. The government is not supposed to be in the entertainment industry. What's next a municipally funded boardwalk and arcade in Port Reading? Be sure to turn off the lights when you finally realize staying was not in your best interests.   more ›

POLL: What do you think about the new mini golf course?

Will you be lined up for miniature golf? Or does it leave you cold?

Skyline Mini-Golf - the township's $428,000 bonded miniature golf course - is set to open April 9. It promises water features, themed golf holes, and a view of the Manhattan skyline. Will you be using the golf course? Have you played miniature golf in other towns? (Carteret, for example, has its own minature golf course nearby.) Do you think it's a great idea? Will you be using it regularly? Or do you think it was too expensive for a taxpayer-funded enterprise?  Take the poll and tell us what you think!
