With more winter weather expected to move through the region starting Wednesday afternoon and continuing into Thursday, NJ TRANSIT is mobilizing its operations, customer service and police personnel across the state to keep the system running smoothly and minimize delays. In anticipation of the storm, NJ TRANSIT will offer full system-wide cross-honoring starting at 1 p.m. today, and continuing until the end of the service day Thursday. That means NJ TRANSIT customers can use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. As NJ TRANSIT continues its storm-recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the agency is gearing up to offer nearly normal Thanksgiving service levels on most of its lines to ensure customers’ travel plans go smoothly over the holiday weekend. NJ TRANSIT is reminding customers that rail service may be subject to delays and cancellations as a result of ongoing storm recovery efforts. Due to residual storm impacts, Gladstone Branch rail service remains suspended until further notice, and Newark Light Rail will continue to operate on a modified schedule between Newark Penn and Broad Street stations (service every half hour). Northeast Corridor trains will be running on a regular schedule effective Monday, Nov. 19. Certain NY-bound trains p.m. making stops between Rahway and New York will be canceled. Also, all but one NJ TRANSIT rail lines will be running full or modified service effective Monday including service along the North Jersey Coast Line, which suffered the brunt of the damage from Hurricane Sandy. The North Jersey Coast Line, the rail service that runs from Bay Head to Woodbridge, will resume service for next week's commute, according to a press release by Gov. Chris Christie's office. NJ TRANSIT will resume service on four more rail lines on Sunday, according to the Governor's Office. According to a press release from the governor's office, the North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley Line and Main/Port Jervis Line will all operate on limited schedules, and the Atlantic City Line will operate on its regular schedule. NJ TRANSIT has announced that rail service to New York Penn Station has resumed on the Northeast Corridor Line, but service on all other rail lines remains suspended due to a power outage and damage from Hurricane Sandy. According to the NJ TRANSIT website, the Northeast Corridor is running trains between Trenton and New York Penn Station on a modified schedule. Visit NJTransit.com to view schedules. The River Line light rail and the majority of bus service in New Jersey have already resumed. All other rail service aside from the Northeast Corridor line remains suspended until further notice. More than 80 bus lines will resume service on Thursday in New Jersey.
NJ TRANSIT has announced that the majority of its bus lines will begin running on Thursday, as well as limited Access Link service. Gov. Chris Christie's office has announced that preparations have begun to potentially shut down NJ TRANSIT rail, light rail and bus service as of Monday, in advance of Hurricane Sandy. According to a press release from the governor's office, shutting down NJ TRANSIT services will take at least 12 hours. During the shutdown, all buses and trains will be moved out of areas at risk of flooding. The shutdown is precautionary, and it is still unsure how long service will be suspended for, the release said.
