Stefan Curcic, 17, has been accepted into the U.S. Air Force Academy.
John F. Kennedy Memorial High School Senior Stefan Curcic has been accepted into the United States Air Force Academy and will be heading off on the day of his high school graduation. Curcic, who is in the top 20 percent of his class, said he has always wanted to both serve his country and fly, so the Air Force was obviously the best route for him to take. “My main goal once I graduate is to go to flight school and become a pilot,” he told Patch. However, while at the academy Curcic plans to pursue a degree in Foreign Area Studies with a Minor in Russian. Currently, Curcic serves as a cadet Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Auxiliary: Civil Air Patrol, as well as a member of the JFK Track and Field program and a piano …

Woodbridge Township approved a bond ordinance issuing funds to a new track at JFK High School.
After years of a defunct track at John F. The bond ordinance authorized the undertaking of the track project, a project that Mayor John E. McCormac called “long overdue.” At the meeting were several Track and Field team members, as well as coaches, the school’s principal, the athletic director and some alumni. Principal Michael Cilento thanked the mayor and council for their effort in getting the ordinance passed. JFK High School's Eco-Friendly Club's efforts seem to be paying off: trash dumped between railroad tracks and Route 27 in Iselin isn't being ignored
High schoolers at John F. Kennedy High School in Iselin really wanted to make a difference. When members of the school's Eco-Friendly Club saw a mess blowing down Route 27 near MetroPark in Iselin and the Garden State Parkway entrance, they didn't walk away. Club members approached the township to get permission to clean the trash up. They were told it was too dangerous for the students to be on the strip of land between railroad tracks and busy Route 27, and that New Jersey Transit had responsibility for the land. So the students put up an Internet petition to get the debris cleaned up, and within weeks, it's had an effect. There's just a small problem: New Jersey Transit has nothing to do with the MetroPark tracks, the land surrounding…

The high school environmental group can't touch the trash on NJ Transit property in Iselin, so they've taken to the Internet to push the train managers to clean up the mess
Members of the John F. Kennedy High School Eco-Friendly Club don't take 'no' for an answer - and the rest of the township may benefit from their stubbornness. In the school's newsletter, they relate a litter blight at the intersection of Green Street and Route 27 in the Iselin section of Woodbridge. Club members had wanted to organize a cleanup of the median strip near the railroad and busy roadway, about a half-mile stretch of roadway near the Parkway South Exit 131. The club's goal was "to give visitors of Woodbridge Township who arrive via Exit 131 on the GSP a better impression of what the town has to offer," they said in the newsletter. Students were told by the township that the property belongs to NJ Transit, and because of the …

A bid can make one of these amazing works of art yours, and help Woodbridge residents of Hurricane Sandy at the same time.
The pain felt by victims of Hurricane Sandy brought an outpouring of support from Woodbridge residents. Now art students at John F. Kennedy High School are doing their share by holding an auction of the art they created to depict the impact of Sandy on their lives and the lives of their neighbors. The artworks are on display at the high school, located in Iselin, but now interested owners can bid online to make these creations theirs, and help a worthy cause at the same time. All monies raised by the auction will go to help Woodbridge victims of the hurricane. JFK's student council already raised $1,600 for hurricane relief, all of which went to Woodbridge homeowners affected by the storm. "Giving up artwork is challenging, especially …

Bring your bottled water! The township's ambulance squads will be providing EMS services.
Temperatures this afternoon are forecast to hit as high as 104 degrees. That'll be right around the time - 2 pm - that all three Woodbridge Township high schools will be holding their graduation ceremonies. All three will be honoring graduates and receiving guests outside simultaneously, in their respective high school stadiums. Several thousand parents and well-wishers are expected at all three graduation commencements. The Honeywell Alert System, which notifies parents in the event of emergencies and schedule changes, sent a text that despite the expected scorching temperatures this afternoon, all high school graduations will be going off as planned. The system noted that at all each of the high schools - at Woodbridge, John F. …

But thanks to the quick work of the janitorial staff, the damage was quickly minimized.
When the students and staff showed up for school at John F. Kennedy High School in Iselin Tuesday morning, they had an unpleasant surprise waiting for them. Somewhere between Monday evening, April 30, and the opening of school at 8 am on May 1, vandals had struck the school's stadium, field house, and concession stand, and wreaked havoc. Police said they met with JFK Athletic Director Paul Postorino to survey the damage at the school. Vandals had pried open the door to the men's bathroom in the fieldhouse, plugged up the sinks with paper towels, turned on the faucets, and flooded the bathroom. A stainless steel water fountain was pried off the outside of the field house, placed in the middle of the football field, with the word "LOL" - …
