The high school environmental group can't touch the trash on NJ Transit property in Iselin, so they've taken to the Internet to push the train managers to clean up the mess
Members of the John F. Kennedy High School Eco-Friendly Club don't take 'no' for an answer - and the rest of the township may benefit from their stubbornness. In the school's newsletter, they relate a litter blight at the intersection of Green Street and Route 27 in the Iselin section of Woodbridge. Club members had wanted to organize a cleanup of the median strip near the railroad and busy roadway, about a half-mile stretch of roadway near the Parkway South Exit 131. The club's goal was "to give visitors of Woodbridge Township who arrive via Exit 131 on the GSP a better impression of what the town has to offer," they said in the newsletter. A man traveling northbound on the Parkway died last night in a single-car accident in Woodbridge, the New Jersey State Police say.
A man driving on the Garden State Parkway near a Woodbridge exit was killed Sunday night in a single-car collision. Around 8:30 pm, the driver of a Honda Accord was traveling northbound on the toll road when he apparently lost control of the vehicle next Exit 129, said Sgt. Adam Grossman, New Jersey State Police spokesman. "The car went off the road in the right lane, then bounced back to the left lane where it hit the center median," Grossman said. The vehicle came to rest on the left shoulder of the roadway, he said. The driver was pronounce dead at the scene. The victims, all of whom were conscious, were rescued after the windshield of the van tin which they were traveling was pried off.
A white van traveling on the Garden State Parkway early this morning flipped over in an accident, imprisoning the vehicle's three occupants. The van, which was traveling northbound on the Parkway just after midnight when the vehicle flipped over. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. The vehicle flipped over at the foot of one of a bridge, said Sgt. Adam Grossman, spokesman for the New Jersey State Police. It came to rest in the middle lane. Inside, three occupants were trapped. The windshield of the vehicle had to be pried off in order to rescue the victims. A four-foot wide hole disabled 18 motorists this morning on the roadway near Woodbridge.
They first started out calling it a 'pothole,' but after it knocked off 18 vehicles in short order, the hole in the Garden State Parkway pavement on the south side of the Parkway in Woodbridge was more readily described as a sinkhole. It was four feet in diameter, said Lieut. Stephen Jones, spokesman for the New Jersey State Police. "It's definitely bigger than a pothole," Jones said. It all started around 6:15 am this morning. Motorists on their way to work were peacefully passing on the Parkway in the southbound lane near the Driscoll Bridge. Two New Jersey state troopers accused of leading a high-speed escort on the Garden State Parkway for a fleet of luxury cars have been criminally charged, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office announced. The New Jersey State Police (NJSP) received complaints regarding the March 2012 caravan to Atlantic City, and the troopers were subsequently suspended without pay in April. In a press conference in Trenton on Friday, Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa said the troopers who conducted the unauthorized escort "turned our highway into a virtual speedway." The late afternoon accident added to traffic woes Thursday.
A motorist exiting the Garden State Parkway onto Route 27 in Iselin Thursday careened into the guard rail and added to rush hour headaches yesterday. The driver hit a guard rail next to the Metropark rail tracks, right across from the Parkway access road. The damaged car, with the bumper hanging off, was in a prime location to cause massive traffic delays on the well-travelled road. The accident happened around 4:30 pm. Woodbridge police were on the seen to cordon off the disabled car.

Two-mile backup on southbound lanes near Exit 130.
Authorities blocked off three lanes on the southbound Garden State Parkway in Woodbridge following an accident near Exit 130 on Thursday afternoon, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Web site. All southbound lanes were open as of 5:10 p.m., but not before a substantial traffic backup. The NJDOT reported delays along a two-mile stretch between Exits 131 and 130 following the accident.

Tolls increasing by 50 percent to raise money for state capital projects
Due to a phased plan increase approved by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority more than three years ago, tolls on both the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway will go up in price by 50 percent, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Jan. 1. Under the new increases, toll rates on the Garden State Parkway will increase from $0.35 to $0.50 for ramp tolls, from $0.50 to $0.75 for two-way toll plazas, and from $1 to $1.50 for one-way toll plazas. It is the third hike in tolls for the Parkway since its opening in 1954, and the seventh for the New Jersey Turnpike since that highway’s inception in 1951. An early morning Parkway crash in the Woodbridge area closed the roadway for hours and resulted in the death of one victim and the critical injury of another.
A car traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway early this morning was involved in a firey crash that took the life of one person, seriously injured another, and shut down the parkway for hours. The accident happened at approximately 1:11 am, when a motorist struck a guard rail on the left hand part of the Parkway near Exit 127 in the Woodbridge area. The crash into the guard rail caused the vehicle to flip over, ejecting the two occupants, said NJ State Police Trooper Christopher Kay. The overturned vehicle, a 1998 Dodge Intrepid, then slid into the northbound lanes and burst into flames, Kay said. Only one vehicle was involved in the accident. Detours due to flooding between Exit 98 and 91.
The Garden State Parkway south of Exit 98 has reopened, state officials said. According to the state Department of Transportation, southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway south of Exit 98 at Interstate 195 had been reopened as of 3 p.m., though there are flood-related detours between Exits 98 and 91. Police are also allowing residents back onto Long Beach Island in Ocean County as of 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The eastbound lanes of the Atlantic City Expressway at Pleasantville will be reopened later on Sunday.
