Sponsored by Cluck U, the 'Woodbridge Eats Wings' competition is this Saturday at Woodbridge High School.
It's going be very, very hot this Saturday, at least around Woodbridge High School. That's where a barbeque wing-eating competition, 'Woodbridge Eats Wings,' sponsored by Cluck U Chicken in Avenel is scheduled to be held. Doors to the cafeteria, where the wings will await, open at 3 pm. Team and individual competitions will be held, as well as a special '911 Competition for First Responders.' Wing heat levels will be traditional, but for the teams, they have a choice of Atomic, Nuclear, and Thermo Nuclear. There will be concessions where one can enjoy - what else? - chicken wings. Matthew Jago School Students in Sewaren will try to beat the Guinness World Record, all with the idea of raising money and awareness about autism.
The children at Matthew Jago School #28 in Sewaren have a grand goal in mind. They're participating in the 10th Annual Blowing Bubbles Challenge, with the goal of beating the bubble-blowing champions, noted in the Guiness Book of World Records. The bubble blowing will be held at the school at 99 Glen Cove Avenue on Monday, April 22. Everyone will meet on the blacktop outside the building at 12:30 pm, with the actual bubbling to begin at 1:15 pm. Students and teachers at the Matthew Jago School have been fundraising all month long, in honor of April's designation as Autism Awareness Month, said teacher Jeannette Gruskowski. Fencing lessons: fun for the entire family, and it benefits a worthy local animal shelter in Colonia
Angel PAWS, the animal rescue center in the Colonia section of Woodbridge, does a lot with a very little to help abandoned and homeless pets find forever homes. Now it's your turn to help them do their best work, while having some fun for you and the entire family. Hub City Fencing Academy, located at 77 New Durham Road in Edison, is holding a fundraiser for Angel PAWS. The fencing institution is having a special two-hour fencing lesson at a mere $25 per person. The fencing fundraiser will be held on Sunday, February 24, from 2 pm to 4 pm. The fraternal organization is holding its annual Thanksgiving in February fundraiser on Sunday, February 17, from 2 pm to 6 pm. The turkey buffet is an 'all you can eat' feast. Woodbridge High School is raising money for victims of the superstorm this Saturday.
Want to help Hurricane Sandy victims? The Woodbridge High School Hurricane Sandy Outreach Project is holding a spaghetti fundraiser on Saturday, January 26. The dinner is being held from 4 pm to 8 pm at the high school cafeteria. In addition to dinner, tricky tray raffles are being offered. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and children. Many local Woodbridge residents in areas of the township have suffered from the storm, so this fundraiser is for a good cause that is highly local as well. Walk in the dark this Friday at WHS to raise money for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Woodbridge is doing its share for helping victims of Hurricane Sandy. This Friday, Woodbridge High School will hold a 'light up' 3K walk to raise funds for storm relief. 'Light Up Woodbridge' is a walk being held at the high school, where participants are asked to wear their brightest and most reflective clothing as they walk around the WHS track in the stadium. Glow-in-the-dark necklaces and bracelets will be distributed to add to the sparkling effect. The concession stand will be open, and there will be DJ music, a rock climbing wall, and a bouncy house, as well as games, dances, raffles, and contests for the best 'glow in the dark' costumes. Giving to a good cause makes the donor feel great. Sometimes, though, the giver gets an even more tangible reward. The David's Touch Foundation will be hosting a special fundraiser at the Shannon Rose Irish Pub in Woodbridge from 6 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, December 13. They will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to donate to sick children who may be spending the holidays in the hospital. In return, the donor will enjoy a special $5 menu at the Shannon Rose. The symbol of David's Touch is a child's handprint. That's done in memory of David Borrero, a nine-year-old child who suffered from congenital heart problems. He received a new heart transplant, only to die of lymphoma when he was 9 years old. It was spending all that time in hospitals …

Vito Mazza Spa & Salon will be open this Sunday as part of their efforts to raise money for hurricane victims in Woodbridge and beyond.
A Woodbridge salon is opening their doors this Sunday, all to raise money for hurricane relief. Vito Mazza Salon & Spa on Main Street will be hosting a special event this Sunday, December 2, from 10 am to 5 pm. All money raised from haircuts, colorings and other spa services, and 10 percent of all gift card sales will be donated to Hurricane Sandy victims. Woodbridge residents who were hard hit by the hurricane storm surge will be first on the list, said Ann Mazza, the salon's event coordinator. The rest of the money will be given out via goods and gift cards to shore residents who are still reeling from the hurricane's impact.
