Sixteen-year-old Tristan Quinton of the Colonia section of Woodbridge reached sixth place in the North American Cup fencing event in Milwaulkee last week.

A 16-year-old Colonia student captured a top place in the North American Cup fencing event. Tristan Quinton of the Colonia section of Woodbridge nabbed sixth place in the Division II Men’s Sabre fencing event at the December North American Cup held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin over the weekend of December 7. Quinton, who began fencing at age 10,  studies his art under the tutelage of Coach Rich Beischer at Hub City Fencing Academy in Edison. “We’re very proud of him. Dagmara Wozniak Rides Passion for Fencing to the Olympic Games

From Avenel to Beijing to London, "Daga" has traveled the world with her mask and sabre, collecting medals and memories along the way.

Dagmara Wozniak is exhausted, but enjoying her mini-vacation.  It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for the 24-year-old from Avenel, who is getting ready to finish her degree in biology at St. John’s University. Oh, and she’s also an Olympic athlete, three weeks removed from competing in the Women’s Individual Sabre Fencing competition at the London Olympic Games, where she advanced to the quarterfinals of the 32-woman tournament on a partially torn Achilles tendon. One can understand why she’s enjoying the time off between the Closing Ceremonies and the first day of class in Queens. “It’s a pretty amazing experience,” Wozniak ("Daga" to friends and family) said of the whirlwind two weeks in London.  “It kind of feels like the highlight of my …

Dagmara Wozniak competes for Olympic gold in Britain tomorrow - and the Avenel Fire Dept. is letting her know her hometown is cheering her on.

Her friends call her 'Daga,' but in Avenel, she's known as their great Olympic hopeful. Dagmara Wozniak, a 24-year-old blonde beauty and a world-class fencing expert, will be demonstrating her sport on the United States' fencing team in Britain Wednesday, August 1.  Wozniak is also a resident of the Avenel section of Woodbridge. Her hometown is so proud of her, the Avenel Volunteer Fire Department put up a sign on their Route 1 marquee sign, wishing her luck. For her part, Dagmara was so delighted, she posted the picture of the Avenel Fire Dept. sign on her Facebook page. "Absolutely amazing!" Dagmara enthused about the sign. "I'm about to cry." And as her turn at the Olympics draws closer, the sabre fencing champ said she could hardly …
