Colonia Man ID'd as Man Who Died in Boating Crash

Eric Kim died when his boat and "No Surrender" crashed

A man from the Colonia section of Woodbridge died after his boat and another boat collided on the ocean off Long Branch, state police said on Monday morning. Eric Kim, 31, died after his boat was struck off Long Branch by "No Surrender," a 38-foot boat piloted by Thomas Oloughlin, 44, of Princeton, on Saturday afternoon, said Sgt. Brian Polite. Kim's passenger, Soo Lee, 34, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, suffered cuts, but was not seriously injured, Polite said. Polite said police are not releasing the names of the passengers aboard "No Surrender," but did say that the pilot and passengers were not injured. Kim may have originally been taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune for head injuries. He was later pronounced dead at …

(UPDATED) Retired NYPD Officer Killed in Helicopter Crash

A helicopter crashed at the intersection of Quaker Bridge Road and Route 1 shortly after noon on Saturday.

  A Staten Island man was killed on Saturday afternoon after the helicopter he was piloting crashed in cornfields on the Cyanamid property along Quaker Bridge Road near Route 1 shortly after noon. West Windsor police have identified the victim as Michael Scarfia, 65, a retired New York City police officer. "Scarfia dedicated his life to the city of New York as a police officer and by diverting his failing helicopter into the cornfield and away from crowded shopping malls, he again showed his bravery and dedication to others," West Windsor Police Lt. Robert Garofalo wrote in a release.

Woman Struck and Killed by Amtrak Train in New Brunswick

Trains going to and from New York and Trenton are still stuck hours after a woman was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in New Brunswick.

Three of four tracks on the Northeast Corridor line which runs from New York to Trenton are still closed after a woman was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in the vicinity of the New Brunswick train station earlier today. New Brunswick police would only say that the woman, whose identity has not been confirmed, had been hit by a speeding Amtrak train at approximately 4:45 pm. The accident has caused massive train delays in both directions, said NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll. Trains at the Woodbridge train station, which is the first stop in the shore spur that leads from the main train lines to New York and Trenton, were halted at the train station at 6 pm.
