Five Suspended in Wake of School Cheating Scandal

Two principals and three teachers from Ross Street and Avenel Street Schools were suspended following Monday's Board of Education meeting.

The fallout of the cheating scandal at a number of Woodbridge schools began to hit Monday night, as three teachers and two principals were suspended in the wake of the Office of Fiscal Accountability and Compliance’s (OFAC) initial report on cheating at Avenel Street School #4/5 and Ross Street School #11. Third grade teachers John Radzik and Lisa Savillo, both of Avenel Street School, and Stephanie Klecan, who taught at the same school in 2010-’11, as well as Avenel Street School Principal Dara Kurlander and former Ross Street School Principal Sharon Strack were each suspended with pay following a closed session at Monday’s Board of Education meeting at Oak Ridge Heights School #21 in Colonia.  Klecan most recently taught at Mawbey …

Board of Education approves Robert Zega as Assistant Superintendent

Zega replaces Lois Rotella, who stepped down from the position of Assisant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction earlier this month.

The Woodbridge school district will start the new year with a new Assistant Superintendent. The Board of Education voted Thursday to approve Dr. Robert Zega as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, replacing Lois Rotella, who abruptly stepped down from the position earlier this month. Following a 45-minute closed session, the board emerged and quickly moved to adopt a host of personnel moves, highlighted by the hiring of Zega “…upon the review and approval of a form of employment contract by the Executive County Superintendent of Schools.”  Zega will fill the position from September 1st through June 30th, 2013.  The board also authorized the Superintendent, Business Administrator, and Board Attorney “to take all steps …

Zega is a very nice man who seems to care about the children but just like the others, when the time comes he WILL be asked to compromise his morales, and for the sake of his overpaid job, he will fold like the rest of them.
