19th District Legislators announce $330,595 for district towns through State Clean Community Program.

The following information was provided by the 19th Legislative District. Senator Joseph F. Vitale, Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski and Assemblyman Craig J. Coughlin are pleased to announce that the 19th Legislative District municipalities of Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy and Woodbridge will receive a combined $330,595.34 in grants from the Clean Communities Grant Program. Specifically, Carteret will receive $34,388.41, Perth Amboy $59,462.04, Sayreville $68,175.15, South Amboy $14,138.81, and Woodbridge $154,430.93. Municipal recipients may use the money for the following purposes—litter cleanup and removal including the sponsorship of the “Adopt a Beach” program, education programs to promote Clean Communities, graffiti …

Assemblyman Craig Coughlin went to district schools to promote the joys of reading
The love of reading can be a lifelong pleasure. Craig Coughlin, assemblyman for the 19th District, helped the process along this week when he visited four schools to promote 'National Read Across America Week.' He visited the Matthew Jago School in the Sewaren section of Woodbridge, where he read what he said was his favorite's children's book, "The Giving Tree." The assemblyman also visited schools in Parlin, Carteret, and South Amboy, all part of the district Coughlin represents. "Dr. Suess said it best," Coughlin said in a statement. As the holidays draw near, the impact of Hurricane Sandy is still very much on the minds of people in the Woodbridge area. That's why BASF Corporation and members of the Colonia AARP joined in to a post-hurricane relief drive that benefited area residents. The two groups donated hundreds of non-perishable food items, diapers, blankets, flashlights, batteries, toiletries, and toys for families affected by Hurricane Sandy. The items were donated to the Salvation Army, located in Perth Amboy, who distributed the goods to needy families in Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy and Woodbridge, among other area municipalities hard hit by the storm. People down on their luck might be a little less hungry if they live in the 19th Legislative District. That's because 'Bowl for Hunger,' a local fundraising crusade to replenish and restock food pantries throughout the local area, raised $19,642 in their third outing, according to Assemblyman Craig Coughlin. Along with Raritan Bay Medical Center in Edison and Middlesex Water Company, Coughlin announced at a press event Friday that the monies raised in the bowling fundraiser would be divided among the 28 MCFOODS-certified food banks in the district, which is comprised of Woodbridge, Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, and South Amboy. Local businesses and politicians come together for a cause to benefit the 19th District's needy.
A water utility, a hospital, and an assemblyman - put them together, and you have a charitable event that raises thousands to feed the needy. The third annual 'Bowl for Hunger' event, sponsored by Middlesex Water Company, Raritan Bay Medical Center (RBMC), and Assemblyman Craig Coughlin (D-19), is a local endeavor to be held at the Woodbridge Bowling Center on July 17. The money raised is divided among the 32 food banks and soup kitchens in the 19th District, which includes Woodbridge, Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, and South Amboy.
