Mayor McCormac says it's all to save money, but others think it's a bad idea all the way around.
One budget in Woodbridge that shouldn't be getting any bigger in 2011 will be the one that governs the police department. The McCormac administration announced it will pare $2.25 million from the police budget by not reappointing 15 new police officers to replace the ones who either have left or will leave the department, as well as seek to hire a civilian police director and assistant director. "As of now, we have 193 officers. Four retired in the last two weeks," said Mayor John McCormac in an interview. He anticipates stabilizing the total number of officers on the force to approximately 197 by the end of June, from the high of 212 policemen who were on the rolls in 2010.
