Sewaren "Quiet Zone" Unveiled at Noisy Railroad Crossing

A $500,000 "Quiet Zone" at the railroad crossing located at the intersection of Woodbridge and West Avenue will shush the train horns in the night.

Sewaren residents may finally get a good night's sleep. That's because Mayor John McCormac pushed through the construction of a "Quiet Zone" at the railroad tracks near Woodbridge and West Avenues that would make it impossible for cars to get over the train tracks while the gates are down, and thus eliminate the need for trains to sound their loud horns. The gates, one of several such projects to be completed in the town, cost approximately $500,000 and were funded by a 2007 bond issue, according to Councilman Charles Kenny, who represents the First Ward.
