96 Percent of Woodbridge Customers Have Power Back; PSE&G Keeps Middlesex Water Pumps Going

Both PSE&G and Middlesex Water Company scored majored victories for Woodbridge Township residents.

In the middle of power outages and water failures, there is a rainbow for Woodbridge. Power has been restored to 96 percent of the township's households, said Ralph LaRossa, president and chief operating officer at PSE&G in an update conference call this morning. He said that 1,631 Woodbridge homeowners are waiting for their lights to go on. That's even better than the county as a whole. Electrical service has been turned back on for 87 percent of Middlesex County residents; 33,346 are still without power. "Frustrations are high," LaRossa acknowledged. "Don't think by any stretch of the imagination we've forgotten about them. We're going to do this thing until we're done." In addition to restoring residential and business service, PSE&G …

The Water is Off: Middlesex Water Company Issues Advisory to Stock Up on Water ASAP

Electric power in New Brunswick has failed and water to the utility's customers now must be boiled. Read this alert for your safety.

The water is out in Woodbridge. Middlesex Water Company issued an alert that because of a power failure they've been fighting since last week at their New Brunwick electrical generating station, water supplies aren't being treated and will drop in quantity to water companies. Woodbridge residents began receiving Reverse 911 calls late this afternoon about the potential electrical failure. Bernadette Sohler, spokeswoman for the utility, said they were trying hard to keep the power supply up and keep the water flowing, but that the township-led calls to residents was premature and not authorized by the company. John Hagerty, spokesman for Mayor John McCormac, said earlier that he "wasn't aware of any calls" warning Woodbridge residents …

Broken Water Pipe Reminds Customers Insurance Isn't a Bad Idea

One Avenel homeowner is glad he has line care insurance for a broken pipe on his front lawn.

In the middle of a heat wave, all the streets in the Avenel section of Woodbridge are as dry as parched bones in the sun, all except part of one block of Commercial Avenue. That is where water bubbles up near the curb, coursing down the street and into a storm sewer. Neighbors say that the water has been running endlessly down the street for weeks, while the owner of the house swears it's a recent occurence. Two things are for sure: the birds were enjoying the impromptu birdbath, and no one can say for sure where the water is coming from, or whose responsibility it is to get it fixed. "We have to figure out where it's coming from," said Bernadette Sohler, spokesman for Middlesex Water Company which services Woodbridge. "If it's on the …

100-year-old Water Main Pipes Are Being Replaced on Amboy Ave.

Construction crews are moving pretty fast; this may mean fewer main breaks in Woodbridge.

All the digging in front of Woodbridge High School the past few days will be good news for residents in Woodbridge and other towns. That's becaause Middlesex Water Company is replacing water mains that have had a tendency in recent times to burst and disrupt water output. Some of the old pipes, which date back to 1907, have been due for an overhaul "We are replacing the water main that's in that area," confirmed Bernadette Sohler, a vice president for Middlesex Water Company which supplies the township's water. Sohler said that they have had repeated breaks on that main. Some of the 16 inch pipes in Woodbridge are over a century old, she said. In February, a water main across Amboy Avenue from where the current main is being replaced …
