This is the eighth year the College has received the award. “Berkeley College is honored to be recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in New Jersey,” said Dario A. Students from area high schools, including several in Woodbridge, have been awarded academic scholarships to Berkeley College, announced Dario A. Cortes, the college president. “We are proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of these high school seniors by awarding them scholarships to attend Berkeley College,” said Dr. Cortes. “As a college that values diversity, fosters academic growth and recognizes the potential of each student, Berkeley College looks forward to welcoming these scholarship recipients to our campuses in the coming year.” The scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors who demonstrate a high level of achievement. The Woodbridge business community will hear how things are going in the township from Mayor McCormac at a Tuesday Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Mayor John McCormac is scheduled to address the Woodbridge Chamber of Commerce and business community on Tuesday, Jan. 24, with a 'State of the Township' address during a Chamber luncheon. The address, which is held under the auspices of the Woodbridge Metro chamber, will be given at a noon luncheon at The Forge Restaurant & Banquet Center on Route 9 North in Woodbridge. Sponsoring the event are Verizon, CME Associations, Hess Corporation, Columbia Bank, Provident Bank, Berkeley College, James P. Nolan & Associates, and PSE&G. The 80th Anniversary Committee of Berkeley College announced that during 2011, more than $80,000 was raised through Berkeley Cares, the college's initiative to support charities that serve local communities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health, and student success. “Berkeley College has a long tradition of serving organizations in the local community,” said Annette Long, Berkeley College Vice President and Co-Chair of the 80th Anniversary Committee. The local business college with branches throughout the state marked a milestone in the township.
With eight decades in the Garden State, Berkeley College is rightly proud of turning out business school graduates who have gone on to bigger and better things over the years. The 80th anniversary of the college also marked 29 years in Woodbridge. The school set up shop in an old supermarket on Rahway Ave., near the intersection with Woodbridge Town Hall. To mark the occasion of its 1931 founding, the college installed panels of its accomplishments, one for each decade of its existance. The panels are on display at the Woodbridge facility, as well as each of the Berkeley locations in New York, including Manhattan, Brooklyn, White Plains, and in NJ campuses of Woodland Park, Newark, and Paramus. Berkeley College is going smoke free. The business college on Rahway Ave. is launching a smoke free politch that prohibits smoking anywhere near the building, including on sidewalks and in the parking lot. The policy extends to all tobacco-related materials by students faculty, staff, contractors and visitors at Berkeley College. This ban extends to areas in and around college buildings or other college property. “This new policy fosters an environment that protects and sustains the health and safety of the Berkeley College community,” said Berkeley President Dario A. The business college on Rahway Ave. contributed to a Berkeley-wide fundraiser for Japanese victimized by the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami.
The Berkeley College community raised $4,344, including a match amount from the college itself, to aid the people of Japan as they continue to rebuild their lives and communities following a devastating March earthquake and tsunami. The proceeds will be divided between the American Red Cross, the Japan Society, the New York City’s Mayor’s Fund, and Save the Children. Berkeley College offers associates and bachelor degrees at eight locations in New York and New Jersey. The local branch is on Rahway Ave., near town hall, in Woodbridge.
