If you got a ticket at any of the red light cameras suspended in June, you may be eligible for a small refund.
Drivers who received red light camera tickets in Woodbridge and other municipalities who subscribe to the program won a class action lawsuit against American Traffic Solutions (ATS) Friday. The settlement announced Friday was for $4.2 million according to a report on nj.com and affects motorists who received red light camera tickets at those lights where the timing of the yellow lights weren't properly certified by the state back in June. The problem affected 21 of 26 municipalities enrolled in the program, including Woodbridge, but only one red light camera of the four in the township was at issue. A NJDOT report shows that rear end collisions jumped at that intersection in the first full year of the pilot programs operation..
Red light cameras may not be the boon to stopping accidents that they once were, according to results published on the pilot program in a NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) report. American Traffic Solutions says they're working in Woodbridge.
In 2011, the red light cameras installed at four intersections in Woodbridge Township garnered more than 7,000 tickets, and more than 97 percent of the tickets were to people who lived outside the township. So said American Traffic Solutions (ATS), the Arizona-based company that installed and maintains Woodbridge's red light cameras. The lion's share of the tickets during 2011 were at the Avenel Street and Route 1 intersection, the granddaddy of red light camera roadways in Woodbridge since their installation in 2010. The data on the other intersections, most of which were up and running in December, is still young. Those intersections are at Route 1 and Green Street; Route 1 and Gill Lane; and the Walmart entrance at Route 184 and West …

Whoop-De-Do !! A $6 refund on tickets from $85 to $140, giving back 4% to 7% of the corrupt and illegal collections with uncertified cameras. Even the courts in NJ uphold most of the predatory red light camera cash registers systems. It is about MONEY, not safety, and even the courts are of very little help. The only real solution is to ban red light cameras statewide. Contact your state …   more ›
