Puzzling Nov. 28 accident on Amboy Ave. raises questions about the officer, and about how the accident was handled.
The case of the Woodbridge police officer who crashed his own vehicle into two telephone poles on Amboy Avenue last month is being investigated by the police department's internal affairs division. Lieut. William McSweeney said he was "assigned to look into the motor vehicle accident" involving Brian Cuffe, a Woodbridge patrolman. The Nov. 28 accident brought down power lines and caused an electrical outage to local businesses for two days. Nearby residents, who came out after they heard the crash and the electricity went out, tried to talk to Brian Cuffe to see if he was all right as he exited his Ford pick-up truck impaled on the second telephone pole. Woodbridge police were catching speeders this morning on Amboy Ave., but it's a long, tough slog to get drivers to follow the law.
Speeders should beware of flying down Amboy Ave. Woodbridge police have set up radar outposts to nab drivers who break the 35 mph speed limit. Business owners in the area of Mawbey St. have noticed a change since they began complaining. That stretch of Amboy Ave. has been the victim of a number of accidents, many involving speeding. A couple of yrs ago a off-duty cop hit a WHS near the same area.The Middlesex Prosecutor's office investigated, said although the cop was speeding it wasnt a factor in the accident. Lol. Then they tell the public going over speed limit is a major cause of accidents, guess they should practice what they preach.
