remember back a few years when there was a fire in the same area. It was much worse than this oneRead More and spread to the parkway and then jumped the parkway. I had friends on Grand Central and their house just suffered some smoke damage, but their neighbors two doors down lost everything. Fire is a terrible thing. You never know with the winds what will happen. Recommend
Sandi Schwartz April 24, 2014 at 11:48 pm
Gotta tell you I felt the same way about that video. Your choice of not editing out that commentRead More taking the Lords name in vain was something that I thought only bothered ME. Seeing those last two comments made me feel better. At least I know that I wasn't the only one who felt this way. You shot a good video capturing a ferocious fire but you also offended people like myself with your tasteless and careless lack of unedited audio that was SO un-necessary to be contained within a good piece of reporting. It SHOULD have been edited out. Shame on you. Kick your journalism up a notch!!
Chuck Below April 25, 2014 at 12:33 am
People are so sensitive it's comical! How many peoples lives(including fire, police, rescue, andRead More local residents) were in danger when she was shooting this video?? She's standing in the middle of a war zone and said "Jesus Christ" and that upset people?! I say the overly sensitive, politically correct, richeous people are BEAT and have so deal with it and get over yourselves. I also say that the woman shooting the video for US to watch (standing in immediate danger to get a video, for her job, should not have to watch what she says and take heat from readers! It's unbelievable to me how weird people are sometimes. I'm really wondering if the offended commenters were just joking. If not, read your comment again, consider the situation, and let us know if you're embarrassed and really that perfect to where this woman doesn't get a pass from you!
Chuck Below April 25, 2014 at 12:45 am
"Kick your journalism up a notch" hahahaaa I'm lol'n right now from that!! Wow SandyRead More Schwartz....nevermind. I can't right now with this... Ms Schwartz, that comment that you wrote is pure comedy. I mean let me please ask you this, what is it like to be SOOO dam perfect?? I'm dying to know! Now I can see why you're "offended". It just clicked that you ARE Jesus Christ. Ok, my fault, sorry bout that JC. Is this real? Is this real life right now??

Actually this is usually a sign of gestational diabetes. But not always....Alison and Erin. AndRead More BIGBAKER I've heard of bigger babies being born at home years ago too but that gets into the whole accuracy of the way they were weighed. My daughter weighed 9lb 1oz. I'm average size. My birth weight was around 7 pounds. My husband was a premie and weighed about 5 pounds. But he was a big man. Not huge. He was 6ft 1in and weighed about 190 at his heaviest. I'm 5' 3" and weighed 165 at full term. Sometimes the size of the baby is determined by ancestors long dead! My son weighed 7lb 12oz and he was born 4 weeks premature! Imagine where he was headed! So don't go blaming things that may have NOTHING to do with it!

I don't disagree with you that we're becoming less and less a free country but it's wrong to blameRead More democrats alone. It wasn't dems alone that passed the patriot act. It hasn't been dems alone that have been re-uping it since it was passed the first time. On how bad Hillary will be as a president. Every president is bad in some ways. Reagan raised taxes more than a dozen times. Bush took us to war on two fronts with no way to pay for it. Clinton signed DOMA and DADT. Obama gave away the farm in order to get the Affordable Care Act passed. Papa Bush said that atheists shouldn't be considered Americans. Sure Hillary will be a bad president in some ways.... they are all bad in some way. I can tell you this much though, any president is going to be a worse president when the publicly stated goal of the opposition is to obstruct that president at any and all opportunities. The dems did it to Bush. The republican'ts are doing it to Obama. It's like Palestine and Israel, they'll fight to the death out of spite and habit, neither one of them knowing which one threw the first punch and not caring because winning is the only goal. What America needs are citizens that go into government for the good of the country instead of the good of their party.
Michael Hipp April 24, 2014 at 03:03 pm
Oh, one last point on your last post B. Dub. "Hillary presidency combined with a DemocraticRead More Congress." Ain't gonna happen. Republicant's have gerrymandered the states to absolute death. They have the House for the foreseeable future and they have a good chance at getting the Senate. I can't guarantee you who's going to win in 2016 but I can very well guarantee you that no one party will take executive and legislative branches, both.

There has to be some strange formula used to generate this list. I grew up in Elizabeth, lived thereRead More for 26 years, and there is absolutely no way that they can make any list. The caller used Skype, via the Internet, and will probably never be found if he took certainRead More precautions unless he's running his mouth about this prank.
Bob West April 24, 2014 at 06:20 pm
@ eddie, I wouldn't mention any specific phone-calling service in case any other arseholes areRead More looking for tips. But for better or worse, those calls are traceable. They have "add-ons" that can fool your friends, but certainly not the NSA. BTW, that phone service was bought by Microsoft a couple of years ago- so much for any illusion of confidentiality. By using it, you "opt in" to give up your privacy, just like with G-mail. Using a computer to make a prank call is a dumb move in itself. Any computer transmits a wealth of information. Non-smart phones are a lot less traceable than anything else. Have you ever seen how many items advertisers and other web sites use to uniquely identify your computer? They can't tell your name but track your unique computer. It's called "computer fingerprinting." As soon as you give your name at a web site they track, they've got you. Check this site sometime to see how unique your computer is-- https://panopticlick.eff.org/ .... I suspect that nobody's putting much effort into tracing this call, because in the big scheme of things, they've got more serious things to deal with. (Unfortunately, unlike our local PDs.) Shame this idiot got so much publicity from his crime. I think the glorifying news "perp walk" should be stopped in virtually all cases.

I got you Kevin. I f you delete the point of contention then the debate is incoherent. The BlackRead More Panther of poetry was defending his viewpoint. I disagree with race based politics but he was standing up in the arena of ideas Then poof...( hello Patch?)... he was gone. I know the Panthers have a terror tactic history, but I thought media has forgiven the past. In Philly 08, Holder allowed military uniformed poll watchers to prevent any 2nd party participation with obvious intimidation. I appreciate Patch. We gotta talk this stuff out. Maybe the panther crossed the line his last comment we did not see, and they scrubbed up a bit. What ever happened, I do appreciate the Patch forums. It is a good local thing for info and exchange. If it becomes editorially dysfunctional, then we all will move on to a more open forum.

the only difference I see between Codey and Christie is that one is wearing an orange cone and theRead More other one is still renting them out at will - regardless, the longer Julie Herrman remains at Rutgers, the longer Rutgers's integrity is going to be under a public cloud

her hiring was a joke, I mean they said they did a background check: must not have used GoogleRead More search because they've listed her troubles before her hire at Rutgers. Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Tamara April 25, 2014 at 12:21 am
What Should we do Instead? 1) Improve standards through evidence of best practice and holdRead More educators accountable. If I stink at my job - I get fired! 2) Continue to expand school choice - monopolies never work – that is why they are illegal! 3) Build teaching “profession” & stop jerking them around with revolving standards. 4) Build solid families that support their children and tie incentives to their actions.
Tamara April 25, 2014 at 12:27 am
**Common Core is a Violation of the U.S. Constitution and Three Federal Statutes (1) GeneralRead More Education Provisions Act (GEPA), which forbids the federal government from meddling in the state’s education programs. (2) Department of Education Organization Act (DEOA), which prohibits the federal government to develop curriculum and program of instruction, textbooks and other instructional materials. (3) Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), which prohibits the federal government to mandate, direct, or control a State, local educational agency.

States take $4.3 B “Race to the Top” & agree to implement common standards in the USRead More without understanding the true costs – academically, financially and otherwise. Common Core (CC) was sold with big money drops by the federal government and the Gates Foundation and great sounding verbiage. *******Meanwhile the Gate’s kids attend Lakeside; an elite private school that considers their students, according to their web-site, “generally more advanced than average” and won’t be subject to CC or the standardized testing which the public schools will undergo. The word doesn't need to go away. It just needs to leave a government which is not supposed toRead More support any particular religion. Silent, since your position is because the majority wants it, think of this. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the USA and the largest religion in the world. UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE NINTH CIRCUIT, Argued and Submitted December 4,Read More 2007—San Francisco, California Filed March 11, 2010 We are called upon to decide whether the teacher-led recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, by students in public schools constitutes an establishment of religion prohibited by the United States Constitution. We hold it does not; the Pledge is constitutional. The Pledge of Allegiance serves to unite our vast nation through the proud recitation of some of the ideals upon which our Republic was founded and for which we continue to strive: one Nation under God—the Founding Fathers’ belief that the people of this nation are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; indivisible—although we have individual states, they are united in one Republic; with liberty —the government cannot take away the people’s inalienable rights; and justice for all—everyone in America is entitled to “equal justice under the law” (as is inscribed above the main entrance to our Supreme Court). Millions of people daily recite these words when pledging allegiance to the United States of America:I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
