Middlesex County Freeholders, "A" Team vs. the "B" Line!

Go to the following link to see what the candidates for Middlesex County Freeholder have to say to voters about their candidacies:  http://sub.gmnews.com/news/2013-10-24/Front_Page/Seven_candidates_seek_county_freeholder_seats.html

My opinion about the candidates, especially Woodbridge Township Councilman, Charley Kenny, follows:

It comes as no surprise that Middlesex County Freeholder candidates, save two, decry excessive taxes.  The two candidates that did not make a keynote issue for containing or lowering taxes, in their respective political platforms (see link), Ms. Blanquita Valenti and Charles Kenny, are the ones with the worst records on spending and tax increases.

As a resident of Woodbridge Township, and an active public advocate for less government and lower taxes, at both the municipal and school district levels, I have seen candidate Charles Kenny pass numerous municipal tax increases with little, if any, challenge. He willingly went along with Mayor John McCormac and McCormac’s Administration on major ($Millions) expenditures for photo-op projects, like a $500K+ skateboard park, that now requires closed circuit surveillance; and a $500K miniature golf course in his Ward, on a capped landfill.

During his time on the Woodbridge Town Council, Kenny helped the township obtain well over $2 Million in government grants and loans (50/50) for the rehabilitation of the Sewaren Marina and Dog Park.  After more than three years of NJ DEP mandated corrections to the dog park, the work on the park remains unfinished, a local eyesore, and a potential health hazard.

During his sixteen or so years on the town council dais, Kenny may well have (based on his years in office) achieved the worse absentee records of any council member.  He was also chided for using sick/personal time from his job as a fireman to take non-job related courses at the county college, at taxpayer expense.

Perhaps, my most disappointing remembrance of Councilman Kenny is when a tearful, very elderly woman was at the town council budget review meeting to plead with the council for no further tax increases. She was truly afraid she could no longer afford her home, because of the tax burdens.   Kenny, in a cold and rather blunt manner told her, she should tell him how to cut municipal taxes!  When it came time for the council to vote on that year’s budget, one of Councilman Kenny’s fellow Councilman, Bob Luban, voted NO on the budget.   Kenny, in an obviously annoyed manner, asked Luban: “Did you get religion?”

If there is any truth to the saying that birds of a feather flock together, voters may be well advised to tell Mr. Kenny, and his “B” Line running mates, to make a nest for themselves someplace other than the Middlesex County Freeholders’ Offices in New Brunswick!  On November 5, County voters have ‘A’ choice, and it’s the “A” Team."
