When Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

A thank you to my local fire department.

As everyone in this area knows, winter seems not to want to give room to spring.  And it is spring; at least my calendar says it is!

Believing, no, hoping, there are only a few cold days left before spring gets sprung, I decided to build one last fire in the fireplace, as a surprise for my friend.

Unfortunately, the surprise was all mine.  Seems despite opening the flew and slowly warming the chimney to ensure a good updraft, the smoke from the wood and news papers (the Star Ledger does have some uses) was smoking up faster than it was going up the chimney.

It didn't take long for the smoke detectors to go off or for ADT to notify the fire department.

In very short order members of the Woodbridge Fire Department, District 1, were at the house, ready to do battle with a fire.  They came fully prepared for the worse and, thankfully, just had to deal with some smoke.  A little dousing of the wood in the fireplace and some exhaust fans was all that was required.

To say I was impressed , and I was, would be an understatement!

Whether those first responders were paid or volunteers is immaterial. They were there when needed! And they were First Class professionals all the way!

Thanks guys for all you do!

P.S.  Had a nice fire, in the fireplace, later that evening.  It was the last for the season!
