Taxes: Wants verses Needs!

Woodbridge Township is staying below the NJ Unemployment rate of 9.8, at least as far as municipal and School District taxes are concerned.  As some may be aware, the School District raised its budget by 3.49%, which brings that budget to $198,199,302.00 (as per the district’s website).

On Tuesday night, August 21, 2012, the mayor announced to the town council his proposed 5.8% increase for the municipality’s 2013 fiscal year budget.  The 2012 budget stood at $118,510,470.00 but, if the council approves the mayor’s new budget (and there is little reason to believe they will not) the 2013 municipal budget will rise to $125,384,077.00

Together, the municipal budget and the School District budget equal $323,583,379.00.  That, ladies and gentlemen, equates to $3,329.00 (approx) for every man, woman and child in the township.  (Please see: http://www.city-data.com/township/Woodbridge-Middlesex-NJ.html for more population and household information).

Now, add in your county tax 8.787% (2011), your fire district taxes (all over 9% [2011 rates], see: http://www.middlesexcountymls.com/private/pdf/Tax.pdf) and your sewer taxes, and Woodbridge certainly tops the NJ Unemployment rate of 9.8%.  Oh, by the way, the US inflation rates for 2011 and 2012, respectively, 1.64% and 3.16%  (see: http://inflationdata.com/inflation/Inflation_Rate/HistoricalInflation.aspx)

So please, the next time you hear the mayor, a council member or township hired official tell you about their wanting to ensure the people of Woodbridge Township continue to receive the same quality of services  (the services the politician have made everyone accustomed to), ask them: At who’s expense?
