Menlo Thrives with Christmas in July

Patch was at Menlo Park Mall at the weekend 'holiday' event. Did we see you there?

It was a hot weekend, and even hotter inside , sales-wise. The mall was celebrating complete with faux ice skating, a Santa in a Hawaiian shirt and a beach chair, and a load of vendors, hawking Christmas items for those who like to get a jump on the holidays.

Patch was there, too, handing out magnets, pens, tee-shirts, and our ever popular cloth shopping bags.

The Christmas event, which ran Saturday and Sunday, was a welcome diversion from the outside heat.

"It's fun!" said six-year-old Brittany, who was doing her best to keep upright on skates as her mother beamed nearby. The 'ice skating' was downstairs in the mall's Nordstrom wing.

Kids in red and green caps were having a blast, skating with their parents' encouragement.

In the center near the mall's glass elevator were Christmas vendors selling their wares. To the side sat Santa in his summer gear. He was there for Christmas in July pictures, and a lot of parents and kids lined up to wait their turn for a $9.99 photo.
