Woodbridge Wrestling Team Crowns Two Champions at Season-Opening Tournament

The boys' basketball team defeated Monroe in its season opener Friday night.

The Woodbridge High School wrestling team crowned two champions at the Hopatcong Invitational on Saturday, according to nj.com.

Joey Marty captured the title at 120 pounds, while Bryan McLaughlin captured the 138-pound title.

Marty edged Parsipanny’s Anthony Ferrise, 1-0, in the final.

McLaughlin scored a 7-0 victory over Parsipanny’s Brandon Jones in the final.

As a team, Woodbridge finished seventh with 43 points.

Boys’ basketball

The boys’ basketball team sent the fans home happy with a 61-57 win over Monroe in the home opener Friday night, according to nj.com.

Zahneer Shuler led the way with 26 points, including five three-pointers. He also had six rebounds and five assists.

Josh Olowookere contributed 14 points, including four treys, in the win. Mike Cordero had nine points.

Woodbridge trailed, 28-22, at halftime, but stormed back with 22 points in the third quarter. The Barrons outscored Monroe 39-29 in the second half.

Girl’s basketball

The South Brunswick High School girls’ basketball team opened the season with a 58-28 win over Woodbridge on Friday night, according to nj.com.

Amber Brown led South Brunswick with 13 points, five rebounds an assist and three steals. Jackie Siva-Harrison had 10 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.

Brielle Bannister and Brianna Valdes each had eight points for Woodbridge.
