Should NJSIAA Extend Football Season to Crown State Champs?

The NJSIAA Executive Committee approved the proposal, which will see a final vote at next month's general meeting. How would you vote?

The NJSIAA moved one step closer to altering its playoff structure to crown state group champions on Wednesday, nj.com reports.

The proposal calls for the season to begin one week earlier, Labor Day in some seasons, and add one more week to the season for those teams who advance all the way to the state title game, according to the report.

The regular season would be limited to nine games from the current 10-game schedule, and Thanksgiving Day rivalries would remain in tact.

The proposal, which was passed by the NJSIAA Executive Committee, is meeting resistance from some administrators, and is far from certain to be passed when school representatives vote on it during next month’s general meeting, according to the report.

Some concerns include depth for smaller schools, who barely manage to navigate a regular season and postseason the way it currently stands. At this point, only group champions in each region are crowned, and the playoffs end the week after Thanksgiving.

What do you think of the proposal? Is it asking too much of high school students to begin playing football before the school year starts and play well into December? How would you vote if you had a say?
