All Age Groups Can Register for Recreational Classes in Rahway

The City of Rahway will hold numerous classes at its East Milton Avenue recreation center starting in September. Classes in music, sports, theater and crafts are open to both residents and non-residents. The Fall recreation programs are designed for everyone from toddlers to seniors. Early childhood programs are also available.

Register in person at the Recreation Center Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Registration fees are payable by check, money order or credit/debit card.

The Recreation Center is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Following is a partial list of available classes:

Introduction to Rock Instruments is for children ages four to six. This is a music class designed to introduce children to various instruments.

Introduction to Keyboards is for children ages seven and older. The class teaches students basic musical techniques such as note reading. Instruments are provided to students.

Introduction to Guitar is for students ages 10 and older.

Children's Theater Workshop for students ages eight to 11. Aspiring young actors take part in theater games and rehearsals. The final class day is the show. Typically held during the scheduled class, the children gain the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

Beginning Dance/Intermediate Ballet is for students ages six to 12. Ballet slippers are required and children must wear leotards and tights to class.

Youth Arts & Crafts is for children ages five to 10 and a knitting class is available for students ages nine to 16. Students must provide size eight wood or metal knitting needles.

Beginning Tae Kwon Do is open to everyone; children must be at least six years old to attend. There are also beginner gymnastics classes for children ages six to eight and an advanced gymnastics class for youth ages six to 15. Leotards are required for both classes.
