Compete in Cake Competition

Compete in the Sweet Treats Cake Competition on September 23. The contest will be held at the Colonia Middle School on Delaware Avenue in Colonia. An entry fee of $8 is required for the first entry; $4 for each additional entry if pre-registered by July 26 for the Divisional and Tasting Categories. All entries after July 26 will be subject to a $10 entry fee for the first entry; $5 for each additional entry. All entries must be received by September 1. Information on the contest is subject to change. Refer to the website thejerseyitgirl.com in May and June to find out more about the competition and to learn more about any changes that may take place prior to the contest. The competition is open to all "sugar artists" and the contest rules described below allow participants to choose from the following divisions:

Young Sweeties – Ages 10-15;

Next Generation Sweet Stars – Youth 16-20;

Certified culinary arts program students from high school and up with proof of enrollment required;

Beginner, or contestants with basic skills;

Intermediate, or contestants with more than three years' baking/decorating experience. (Note that beginners and intermediate contestants cannot be those with culinary school/cooking course backgrounds);

Advanced, or those with more than three years of professional experience and/or those with cooking course backgrounds;

Professional, or those with five or more years of experience and who qualify under one of the following conditions: 10% earned income from the sale of cakes; works in a commercial bakery; teaches or has taught advanced cake decorating techniques, and those who have taken at least 35 hours of instruction from recognized professional instructors;

Master, or anyone who has won three Best of Shows, or has won the Professional Division, teaches special techniques, has authored a book, is an ICES Master Sugar Artist and/or has taken classes from nationally known teachers and has reached a level of expertise to create masterpieces of superior level work.

Entrants may arrive at the school between 6 pm and 8 pm on September 22 or between 7:30 am and 9 am on the day of the contest, September 23 for check in and set up. All entries must be set up and ready for display on Sunday at 9:45 am as doors open at 10 am.  

Awards in each division will consist of a certificate and a ribbon. Cash prizes for some of the categories will also be rewarded. All entries will be professionally photographed and photos used by the Sweet Treats Cake Competition and The Jersey It Girl for promotional purposes.
