Celebrate Independence Day at Perth Amboy/South Amboy Historic Milestone Events

The cities of Perth Amboy and South Amboy will celebrate Independence Day with a number of historic local events.

The 2012 historic milestones for both municipalities are:

A 250 year anniversary of the construction of the Royal Governor’s Mansion (the Proprietary House) by the British Empire in Perth Amboy;

A 100 year anniversary of the founding of the YMCA;

A 100 year anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts;

A 100 year anniversary of the first U.S. airmail flight from South Amboy to Perth Amboy, and 

A 50 year anniversary of the National Liberty Bell ringing commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

July 3 Events:

A fireworks display will be held at 9:20 pm at the Perth Amboy and South Amboy waterfront.

South Amboy will be hosting a free concert at 6 pm at the Raritan Bay Waterfront Park located at John T. O’Leary Boulevard and will feature packaged goods from 6 pm to 6:40 pm; the group "Bomb Squad" from 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm, and the group "Rory Kelly's Triple Threat" from 7:45 pm to 9 pm.

There will be free shuttle service to the park from the NJTransit train station.

July 4 Events:

Perth Amboy will ring the replica of its Liberty Bell located at City Hall to memorialize the 236th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. A procession from the Proprietary House at 149 Kearny Avenue will begin at 12:30 pm and proceed to the event. The bell for the State of New Jersey is located at 260 High Street. At 2 pm, the bell will be rung 13 times; one ring for each of the original 13 colonies.

There will also be a live feed of music and programming on WCTC 1450 AM and WMGQ Magic 98.3 local radio stations.
